I owned a 1980 Rabbit Diesel. I have also owned Corvettes.

I miss my Rabbit the most.

Well! If you look at your electricity bill the first few KW are real cheap! When you get into the 4th or 5th tier pricing, you will go broke! It is usually about triple the 1st tier amount. So you will be screwed no matter what.

Makes perfect sense. Once they spontaneously combust while sitting in your garage, they don’t burn any fuel.

They count cars sold between dealers as sold units... everything about gm, and the volt is a lie. Just today, there was an article on FR by an owner (Nissan Leaf) and author that stated that he gets about half the mileage on a charge that Nissan claims... Dash board says 81 miles on battery charge... out of juice in 45 miles... he had to stop at a dealer to get the car charged on a 32 mile trip to take his son to camp... missed 2 hours from work while they charged it enough to get him to work. Several owners of the volt report similar findings. There are no charge ports where and when you need them... 440 volt charging systems will charge it quicker but most of those are in Germany. Six to eight thousand dollars to install a charge port at home... this technology is all a lie.

Back in 1976, I was a parts department manager for AMC dealership.
We had this customer who bought a Pacer was claimed that he was getting over 60 miles mph. We all thought he was crazy. On his 3000 miles service, he needed a new air filter and I could not find the proper filter to fit it. I called the company and gave them the motorcraft carb number and they said that that wasn't the proper carb for the car. To make a long story short. The Corporation two days later visited the owner, and bought back the car, gave him double the price and we at the dealership were told to forget what we saw. It turns out it was an experimental fuel injection system from Ford Motorcraft division.

Imagine the cost of electricity after the EPA closes down all the coal plants and everybody buys one of these electric coffins.

$0.54 on Tier 5. I was hitting >$700 per month electric bills in the summer.

At that price it's cheaper to generate your own electricity. Natural gas, or whatever fuel is cheapest at the moment, could power a microturbine. The waste heat could be used to help heat the house in winter or drive compressors to cool it in summer. At a power plant typically half the energy is lost as waste heat.

Hey, It was a 1977 258 six cly. auto with ac.... Fully loaded and powder blue. The story sounds fake but it was true. I know that the Gremlins were getting about 30 miles mph and for this fish bowel to get that kind of mileage was crazy.

"So did you buy the great looking vehicle?"

Nope, I need an SUV, so I'm waiting for an SUV with a diesel and a 6-speed manual ;-)

The salesman said they are selling the Volts to Doctors, Lawyers etc., who can afford the extra bucks. But, the government rebate is $7,500 AND I think the sticker said "estimated fuel cost savings for one year" of $1,000 (which I think may be low). So, if you have the disposable income, combined with the great look and very nice interior, and the incredible pickup, I can see the attraction. And, hey! it's not my money...wait... where is that $7,500 rebate coming from...hmmm

It depends on your pricing structure but mine isn’t done that way. I don’t have the tiers in our billing.

When we were teenagers, my brother and I shared a 1977 VW Rabbit (regular gas, not diesel). It still got 45 MPG and only costed $10 to fill the tank and it ran for 2 weeks. But, that didn’t stop us from arguing over who’s turn it was to buy gas.
