Top Ten Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time
big hollywood ^

Posted on 11/20/2011 8:47:17 AM PST by Perdogg

It’s been almost two years since I posted at Big Hollywood regarding the Top 10 Most Overrated Directors of All Time. I’ve had a chance to reflect and think about the crimes I committed in that post. And, to paraphrase Mr. Eko from the greatest TV show of all time, “Lost,” I ask no forgiveness because I have committed no sin … except leaving Spike Lee and Tim Burton off the list, that is.

So, because you all enjoyed that list so much, and because I apparently have a death wish, it’s time for another: The Top 10 Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time

(Excerpt) Read more at bighollywood.breitbart.com ...

Yakn was a great stunt man and double. In GONE WITH THE WIND he was used as a double for Clark Gable, and in one scene where he drives a wagon up to Scarlet, he looked so much like Clark they left the scene in the movie instead of re-shooting with Gable.

He was later the white renegade (along with a black former slave) who attack Scarlet out on Decatur Road.

...whenever the subject of "bad actor" comes up, the first name that leaps to mind is always Chuck Norris.

Run while you still can.

Meh - wouldn't do any good. If the Chuckster decided to come after someone for insinuating his "acting" isn't what it ought to be, there would BE nowhere to run.

You know, I hear that before he goes to bed every night, the Bogeyman checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

Cool! I didn't know that! Yak was a neat looking guy. I got hooked on him watching about fifty thousand old 1930s John Wayne "Republic" films in a video collection that came our way. He is so much fun to watch. What a hard-working guy!

I can see how he'd really double for Clark Gable, even in size.

Yes, indeedy. Brando made it easy to agree with Shakespeare. Antony was a pompous ass, easy pickins for Brando. James Mason, on the other hand, was a completely believable and sympathetic Brutus. As an Italian, Brando should have had the edge, but he came off as an east-coast American trying to out-enunciate the Brits. (Heck, anyone who decides to play a southern U. S. army captain/major with a lithp deserves contempt.)

I gotta play with it a little more. Hopefully it won’t make too difficult the hundreds of sites I have to access for my work. If it doesn’t, then we have a winner, and I’m out another $25 to FR. Oh well, I’d have just wasted it on good beer.

Thanks for the pointer.

>>The one on the right side of this Breitbart page referenced by this thread is a perfect example.<<

Solution: close the eye on the side of the page with the frame.

Jim welcomes the donation, I am sure :)

I know he will, but I think I'll give credit to willieroe for it. In spite of your creative suggestion. /grin

He seems to have missed John Wayne.

Near as I can figure you have to be considered a good actor at some time by somebody in order to qualify as “overrated.” Wayne, well...

Robert Redford should be a unanimous Number 1!

Gary Cooper (even though he stars in many of my favorite movies)

Coop was always Coop. You can say it's easy always playing yourself, but it's not so. John Wayne falls into this category too.

As an example of an underrated actor I would go with Val Kilmer.

Kilmer is always great, no matter what dreck he's appearing in. Really liked him in SPARTAN and KISS KISS BANG BANG.

...Faye Dunaway. I don’t think that woman could act her way out of a paper bag. She wears clothes great though, she should have been a model.

Dunaway was a model before going into acting.

Re: Just off the top of Ben Shapiro's Top 10 List 8. Spencer Tracy: He’s immensely likable on screen, but he’s not a great actor by any stretch of the imagination. Light comedy is his forte (watch the original “Father of the Bride” or “Adam’s Rib”), but he’s too stolid in heavy drama like “Bad Day at Black Rock.” He’s always Spencer Tracy, no matter what he’s in. That’s more a characteristic of older actors who were movie stars rather than actors (see John Wayne, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, etc.), but those actors are rarely listed among the best of all time. Tracy routinely is.

7. Katharine Hepburn: Overwrought, overhyped, and overblown. Hepburn is the same in virtually all of her films, save “The Rainmaker,” “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” and “On Golden Pond.” She tends to chew the scenery, and she never inhabits a part; she insists that the part inhabits her. Her films with Tracy are just as formulaic as Hope and Crosby (and no one ever called Hope and Crosby great actors). Many critics loved her because she wasn’t afraid to lose her femininity at the door, but that made her a hard actress to love onscreen.

6. Gregory Peck: Atticus Finch is supposed to have a Southern accent. Joseph Mengele is supposed to have a German accent. And characters are supposed to be different from each other. Philip Green in “Gentleman’s Agreement” is not supposed to be the same character as Joe Bradley in “Roman Holiday” or Captain Ahab in “Moby Dick.” Peck could not play pathos, could not play vulnerability, and could not play real anger. Like Tracy, the best word to describe him would be stolid.

What in the world... is this guy smoking?????

What young Ben knows about acting... you could fit inside a Hollywood agent's heart and still have room for a full sized replica of the Titanic!

You’re both crazy. Costner’s roll in Tin Cup should have won him the best actors award, along with Cheech as his quirky side kick for supporting actor.

Tin Cup is one of my favorites. Also Bull Durham, although it's hard to stomach Susan Sarandon after she went so political. Also liked Costner in The Upside of Anger.
