Top Ten Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time
big hollywood ^

Posted on 11/20/2011 8:47:17 AM PST by Perdogg

It’s been almost two years since I posted at Big Hollywood regarding the Top 10 Most Overrated Directors of All Time. I’ve had a chance to reflect and think about the crimes I committed in that post. And, to paraphrase Mr. Eko from the greatest TV show of all time, “Lost,” I ask no forgiveness because I have committed no sin … except leaving Spike Lee and Tim Burton off the list, that is.

So, because you all enjoyed that list so much, and because I apparently have a death wish, it’s time for another: The Top 10 Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time

(Excerpt) Read more at bighollywood.breitbart.com ...

What Shapiro doesn’t seem to realize is that in the Classic Studio System days actors would play a persona. Even character actors. Cary Grant has been called the greatest actor in film history because of his technique and ability to be likable and unlikable at the same time. And he was certainly always playing ‘Cary Grant’.

He’s a good comic actor! Look at Snatch or Fight Club or Burn After Reading. And he was great in Moneyball.

I hate her but everytime I see her in a movie it turns out to be a good one.

I think so too about the Cary Grant comparison! He was the first one who came to mind, as I watched “Up in the Air.”

Thanks for the recommendation — I’ll try “Intolerable Cruelty.”

My favorite two actors from the golden days are Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. I’ve never seen “Gaslight” and just ordered that on Netflix (with Miss Bergman).

Oh, man, don't get me started on Yak. He wasn't just a stuntman, he was a god. He was one tough dude. For the extreme amounts of phsyical work he did, he was one tough monkey -- in his 40s when he was doing the crazy stunts you see in the early John Wayne movies. He was a rodeo guy -- the name "Yakima" is from the rodeo he used to ride in Yakima, Washington or Oregon, I forget.

Yak was a legend as a stuntman and a stunt coordinator. He was smart and innovative in doing stunts. He had a lot of bit parts, almost always as the villian, in the really old '30s John Wayne cowoy flicks, where he does some hairy stunts and ridiculously incredible riding and mounting. It's said that over time, he broke every bone in his body, and I believe it. He was the first guy to master jumping from one galloping horse to another to take down a bad guy. From a distance you can't tell he's not John Wayne.

Yak was amazing.

I only saw “Deja Vu” from what you listed, and he was good, though it was quite odd to see him in a supporting role.

I liked Kilmer in “The Saint,” lol. I liked Elizabeth Shue in it too. I bought the movie after seeing it on an airplane ...

Kilmer will always be “Nick Rivers” in ‘Top Secret.’

Oh, I don’t know about Frank being a bad actor. He really did a good job in Anchors Aweigh as the fumbling, scared-to-death of women nerd. THAT’S acting! :-D

Thunderheart is based on a series of events that took place on a couple of Indian Reservations in the 1970's and early 1980's. He plays a half-Sioux FBI agent who is sent out to help gain control of the situation, but he ends up siding with the traditionalists.

5 Days of War is about the 2008 Russia-Georgia War. He plays a veteran journalist who takes a young rookie (the main character) under his wing and shows him the ropes. It is being released on DVD next week.

James Bond. In just about every other movie in the series he looks different. What’s up with that?

King of Marvin Gardens was interesting, with Nicholson playing against type and Bruce Dern doing a great job with what easily could have been Jack’s role.

I will add (another) $25 donation to the Freepathon if anyone here can solve a problem for me.

Problem: I despise these twitter frames that are on many sites. Annoy the hell out of me. The one on the right side of this Breitbart page referenced by this thread is a perfect example.

I want to be able to block a twitter frame (in Firefox) whenever I visit a page that has one. I have tried to do it with Ad Block Plus to no avail. I can't find that anyone has written an application that will do it.

It's worth $25 to FR if someone can figure how to do it and make it work for me. If you just point me to a free application that does it for me, that counts too.

Any time I see Yakima Canutt as the Second Unit Director on a movie I know I will see really good stunts. Western or no western.

Ivanhoe
Last of the Comanches
Khartom

And Ben Johnson had a ranch in Oklahoma.

***You’re right about Powers Booth’s performance, he was outstanding, in fact everyone acting in the film was.****

Powers Booth did a great imitation of Lee Marvin in that film.
