Today on the 40th anniversary of the 4004, the worlds first microprocessor, the world should salute Intel and the three inventors of that microchip for the accomplishment.
But lets not forget that a little bit of luck and good lawyering helped too.

I picked up a station out of Iraq that was sending covert messages to fighters against Muqtada Al Sadr.

Wow. That’s cool.
Yeah the darn thing was a mechanical and electrical marvel.
I would listen to baseball on that in places I cant tell you about on a AN/BRD-7.
It is cool!
I think it was called “The Voice of Mojahad”
Appreciate that info as well! Buying a s/w set has been on my “must have” wtshtf list for some time now...
I got the R390 Collins and the AN/BRD-7 Sanders and Associates mixed up in a muddle of nostalgia. LoL
When the computer “cloud” pops, SW will still be there.
Hi there! Good for you. I’m getting one ASAP. And a lot of batteries to go with it.
I think it was called The Voice of Mojahad
In english?
1971? I was jungle dancing in the Ashau Valley up near Laos... setting up ambush for some slanty eye commies during that Lam Son 719 fiasco. A good time was had by all... Right unkus? LOL!
When Hurricane Ike hit here, there were some panicked people on FR who where in the wake.
I was listening to HAMS on Galveston Island that were up at transmitting.
Cell phones are out, electric is out, internet is out.
A 12v battery, radio and a piece of wire gets the word out.
A simple portable SW radio wont get you images of Shep Smith or Geraldo yucking it up(though you can send pictures via SW), it gets you real time news when the other systems fail.
Yes in English, It was set up as a commercial radio station.
The covert part was word play.
Iranian SW propaganda would shock you.
They beam it to the west.
They use a western NPR format.
They run all the anti west talking points while using western formats.
Makes Voice of Russia sound reasonable LoL
So the Larb Gai wasn’t so good eh?
LOL! During LRRP's we didn't mix much with the local clientele... Wasn't a good way to stay healthy! Had some dishes the ARVN boys made... not bad in most cases! Never could get the hang of that fish sauce though...
Thank you for your service.
Mylife...sorry to jump in, but was wondering if you have used this sw. Might make a nice Christmas present for my 10yo son....thanks

LOL!!! Yeah, night ambushes and then smellin’ the wonderful odors of Phu Bai. We were smellin’ like amonia and grossing out the REMFs.
Yes I have used it. and it had become my favorite portable until it was stolen last month.
I like its controls and its reception.
Its sturdy and it recharges battery’s in the radio
