What Sarah Palin Really Said About A “Drop Dead” Date
A Time for Choosing ^ | October 1, 2011 | Gary P Jackson

By Gary P Jackson

The media and anti-Palin forces [many times one and the same] went nuts on Friday when Sarah Palin didn’t announce her candidacy for President of the United States. As the day went on, it became quite comical.

Never mind that Sarah, who appeared Thursday evening on Fox Business News’s Freedom Watch, told the viewers she wouldn’t be announcing on Friday and was holding her cards close to the vest.

I’m always amazed that people think Sarah should lay her cards on the table, spell out exactly what she intends to do to win the presidency. Would you expect a general going to war to tell the enemy what his plan of attack would be? Err, no. Nor would any other candidate be asked to do this.

At this point in time, Sarah has no reason not to tell her millions of supporters if she’s not running. Nothing to gain. That said, a candidate who is planning an unconventional campaign, one like she’s successfully ran before [the Alaska governor's race] would certainly keep her entire strategery to herself until it was time to act.

Getting back to the point. Somehow answers Sarah Palin has given in interviews have turned into hard dates that Sarah herself has never set. In fact, she’s been purposely vague about hard dates, only kinda-sorta agreeing with the reporters asking the questions. The only hard and fast dates Sarah has ever talked about were the legal filing deadlines. Those are the only “drop dead” dates she’s specified.

We went back to an interview Sarah did with David Brody and the Iowa State Fair in August, that is representative of the interviews she’s done that have asked “the question.”

Palin: There is still a lot of contemplation that goes on within a family, deciding whether to engage in such a life-changing venture, putting yourself forward in the name of service, in such a position as President of the United States. So, we’re still thinking about it, and the impact on family.

Family comes first in my life, and I just don’t want to adversely affect the family. So, we’re still talking about it, thinking about it. And that’s what I want supporters to understand.

At the same time, I want to be very fair to supporters and not keep them hanging on in perpetuity. It’s fair to them to give them an answer here, in short order, so that they can jump on board with someone else, and/or to decide for themselves what they want to do. So, still haven’t made up my mind, haven’t decided when that announcement would be yet.

David Brody: Is that short order by the end of September? October?

Palin: I think that that is a fair timeline for people, because Fall time, they can start getting engaged with different campaigns, but still thinking about it, and really, really desiring to be a participant in the positive change that needs to happen in this country.

Economy getting back on the right track. Jobs created for Americans. I want to be a part of that, whether it be as a candidate, or as a supporter of the right candidate. I’m still in that decision making phase.

As highlighted, the answer is the end of September or the end of October.

See the entire interview here.

If people and the media want to take the time, they can go back and look at interviews that talk about a timeline, and they all go about the same.

What is most curious is how it’s the anti-Palin people who are all wee-wee’ed up because Sarah Palin hasn’t announced yet. Her supporters couldn’t care less when she announces as long as she announces!

What is also curious to me is it’s been guys like Mitch Daniels, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, and now Chris Christie who have played the “is you is, or is you ain’t” game, teasing their fans by saying they might, then the won’t, then they might run. [with Perry actually getting in, after promising Texans he would serve his full term as Govern on numerous occasions]

And yet, it’s Sarah Palin, who has always been consistent in her answers to questions about a possible run, who is the “tease.” You’d almost think there was some sort of agenda at work!

What’s interesting to me, is with all of the problems of the world, the Obama scandals [Fast and Furious, Solyndra, etc.] the crappy economy, terrorism, and everything else the media should be covering, they are spending their time worried about a woman they claim is insignificant, and could never win, is up to.

The constant hand-wringing over Sarah Palin betrays their fear. Sarah Palin lives rent free in all of their heads.

That’s probably why it’s going to be so enjoyable to watch her beat them all.

I’m waiting until the bitter end for her. And if she decides differently, I’ll just trust her judgement and vote for the next-best-thing.

I send every GOP letter back with a few notes of my own in it— not dollar notes, but notes about what they should be doing and who they should be listening to these days: real conservatives.

I’m holding my dollar notes for Sarah.

“If” Sarah Palin doesn’t run -— and I fully anticipate that she willl -— this will be a very inexpensive election for me, because all the money I have saved is saved only for her.

Oh, I will vote for our nominee, provided s/he is a conservative, who’s not going to let us down with illegal alien immigration. Herman Cain for example, who, like Sarah Palin, has no ties to Washington, DC, but I will use the money I saved for 3 years for Sarah Palin on my own bills and family.

I trust that you’re well, anmd I am still praying for your father.

Maybe ... but at least I don't post to accuse fellow FReepers of abusing children.

Like SOME *cough*cyberliberty*cough* FReepers I know.

Sorry, I don’t have anything to say to admitted child beaters. And you beat girls! For shame. For shame.

That picture is Rorschach test.

I look at it and see an adorable little girl throwing a tantrum to get her way.

You look at it and see child abuse.

Sounds like somebody has a guilty conscience.

Giving the professional political class heartburn is what I enjoy Sarah Palin doing the most for now.

They scream and yell she is a nobody with no influence or power, then spend their days whining and bemoaning she won't do what they demand.

I see others beat me to it, but thank you clarifying what your real issue is regarding Governor Palin.

I appreciate your honesty. Really I do. Really...

President Zero is a loser no matter who runs. Assuming a modicum of competency and desire for victory, no way Zero wins. It won’t even be within the realm of being stolen.

Sarah is worth waiting for. Except for Cain and perhaps Santorum, the others are establishment RINO types. If she doesnt get in, I will vote for whoever the nominee is.

Not to worry. We have a solid Conservative already running. He can still pull this out.

I think it’s earnest indecision. - BuckeyeTexan

Perhaps, but that is certainly not what the loudest of Palin's supporters have been claiming.

Most of them insist she is definitely running and just strategically delaying an announcement till the perfect moment.

If you believe what her most devoted followers are saying, Palin is lying to everyone by claiming she is undecided...Longbow1969

As one of the "most devoted followers" of Governor Palin to whom you refer, LongBow1969 -- I feel obligated to re-post this more ELEGANT way to formulate that position, from a comment by Conservatives4Palin's Aaron Herald:
As for me, it is easier to simply accept Governor Palin at her word rather than to presume she's being disingenuous.

(And no matter the reasoning or motive--war, strategy, cleverness, Sun-Tzu yadda yadda--disingenuousness is the underlying presumption of this way of thinking.)

And that word is that she's not made the final decision. I believe, like many here, that she's long planned for a potential run and has taken proper steps to be in position to make an effective run following an announcement. That is a prudent and forward-looking course of action by a serious potential contender.

It is, though, a markedly different thing than a decision to commit to a run.

An imperfect analogy that might serve to help here is the distinction between an engagement and a marriage.

The engaged has agreed in principle to marriage and begins taking all the necessary psychological, physical and practical steps to plan for the wedding.

The true committment to the marriage, though, does not happen until the couple stand upon the altar and utter the words "I do".

Sarah hasn't said "I do" yet.

I choose to take Sarah at her own word that she's not made the final commitment. To do otherwise would be tantamount to calling her a deceiver, and I refuse to do that.

I hope, pray, and strongly suspect she will say "I do."

I sincerely hope that this analysis helps YOU to understand what many of us feel in our gut about Sarah Palin's "intentions" -- as much as it has helped ME. :o)

Posters here have been crowing ad infinitum how Palin's been "keeping the media off balance".

She's also keeping the Republican candidates off balance, donors and fund-raisers off balance, big-name endorsers, the Tea Partiers and her supporters off balance....

I agree with this last part of your post, Cyber.

There is a significant risk of "collateral" damage to the "good guys" in Governor Palin's current "unconventional" strategy.

I agree with her need to keep "the opposition" off balance...

...and I see her opposition as not just the MEDIA, but also the ESTABLISHMENT RINOS...
...but I also look forward to the end of this "guerrilla" phase of her campaign, so that her "ground forces" can re-engage.

Many of us in the O4P trenches are not (yet) as fully engaged as we would like to be.

Ooops!

I got the two of you confused in my last post.

Sorry.

It bothers me to see so many old FRiends hurt by what I believe to be Governor Palin's unfortunate, but NECESSARY, current strategy.

At some point in the very near future, we will all need to once again be on the SAME side -- getting rid of Obama.

Sarah Palin isn't obeying you!

What's worse, she's supposed to have a "servant's heart".

She needs to get busy and make me a sandwich.

She's also keeping the Republican candidates off balance, donors and fund-raisers off balance, big-name endorsers, the Tea Partiers and her supporters off balance....and if anyone think this is good for our party, think again.

I don't agree at all.

Our existing candidates have been performing poorly. If they were doing well, Palin's unknown status wouldn't have an effect.

At the very least, Palin's possible entry into the race should be an incentive to our current crop of candidates to do better, specifically on the issues.

Perhaps you should "think again".

My only part in this conversation is that I am tired of seeing that pic of the crying toddler that keeps getting posted, and I got ragged pretty well for that by a pair of a-holes saying I’m declaring some kind of “victim” status.

One of them, it seems, is/was a child-beater.

Sarah has no reason not to tell her millions of supporters if she’s not running.

Am I the only one who really read that sentence?

If she has no reason not to tell her supporters if she's not running, then whose side is this guy on? Actually, I think he's just such a poor writer he got tangled up in his double negatives.

It makes perfect sense to me!

So let me get this straight.

Your argument is that the person who left a highly lucrative position on the Oil and Gas Commission so she could expose rampant corruption as a whistleblower...and who gave herself a paycut...

...is all the sudden obsessed with money and fame?

Good luck with that narrative, pal.
