One day when I was waiting to board a plane, a stranger who had overheard me mention that I was a chaplain began to describe to me his life before he met Christ. He said it was marked by sin and self-absorption. Then I met Jesus.
I listened with interest to a list of changes he had made to his life and good deeds he had done. But because everything he told me was about his busyness for God and not his fellowship with God, I wasnt surprised when he added, Frankly, chaplain, I thought Id feel better about myself by now.
I think the New Testament character Martha would have understood that strangers observation. Having invited Jesus to be a guest at her home, she set about doing what she thought were the important things. But this meant she couldnt focus on Jesus. Because Mary wasnt helping, Martha felt justified asking Jesus to chide her. Its a mistake many of us make: Were so busy doing good that we dont spend time getting to know God better.
My advice to my new airplane friend came from the core of Jesus words to Martha in Luke 10:41-42. I said to him: Slow down and invest yourself in knowing God; let His Word reveal Himself to you. If were too busy to spend time with God, were simply too busy.
That is the way it goes when we under go first time procedures. I was scared to death when they did the first nerve blocks on my back, now after 3 and a tail bone in office block, it is a piece of cake.
Another one is scheduled for the 25th on the C-3-7, the rotator cuff tear is now double is size, but the main pain, so I have been medically informed is coming from the nearly fused cervical bones in the neck. Oh, joy, this will be a every 4-6 month procedure until we reach the point that the cortisone stops working, which in my case will be about a year.
I will try to answer pings later in the day. By the way, after all the numbness left, which took a while, I had a miserable time. Had pain in the eye with constant watering and the only peace I could get was to keep my eye or eyes shut. Every blink of the eye made it worse. I finally took a pain pill and rared back in the lazy boy and slept until 12:15. Then I got up and went to bed and slept pretty good.
Its some better this morning but scratchy when blinking. I called the Retina Center this morning and spoke to a doctor and he told me to get some artificial tears until this subsides. He said very seldom are there any side effects like this. I felt better as I didn’t know who to call last night.
The doctor who did my procedure didn’t warn me of any side effects. I had asked him if I needed to go out, was it okay for me to drive the car and he said, “Sure, that’s fine.” I had thought about some eye drops but I sure didn’t feel like going out to get them.
I will stay off the computer and if it does get better I may be able to get back here.
Thanks to all of you for your good wishes and prayers. Ya’ll are the best!!
Thank you, Teenie.

for the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours,
because it means I am alive.
for weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day,
because it means I have been capable of working hard.
for my shadow that watches me work,
because it means I am out in the sunshine.
for the taxes that I pay,
because it means that I am employed.
for the clothes that fit a little too snug,
because it means I have enough to eat.
for the teen-ager who is complaining about doing dishes
because he is at home and not on the streets.
for the mess to clean up after a party,
because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and need fixing, because it means I have a home.
for the lady behind me in church that sings off key,
because it means that I can hear.
for all the complaining I hear about the government,
because it means that I have freedom of speech.
for the parking spot at the far end of the parking lot,
because it means I am capable of walking
and that I have been blessed with transportation.
for my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.
And.....I am SO thankful for my online FRiends!
Thanks for the update, Jaycee. I’m happy that the eye is better this morning. Hopefully it will continue to improve.
We haven’t heard from Conor since before his surgery. He is still in my prayers.
I haven’t heard anything from Dubya ... I lost my land line telephone service yesterday. Telephone company cannot get here until tomorrow. I wish I had left my cell phone number on the answering machines for Dubya.
Have a great day and get plenty of rest. I will continue offering prayers for you.
Good morning, DD. Has your weather been as beautiful as ours has been? It is sooo good to have no A/C or heater. I have enjoyed the cool crisp mornings. I may need to turn on the A/C this afternoon.
Hope you are feeling better. I will keep you in my prayers ... If I remember correctly, you have another doctor appt next week. Will pray that the new doctor will be given the answers to your back problems.
Have a fun day.
That is lovely, Yorkie. Thank you.
I am also thankful for all of my online friends.
