A NEW York man suffering from a condition called priapism - which causes painful erections that can last for hours - was busted for allegedly trying to steal money from his father to buy painkillers he hoped would grant him relief.
David Miller, 30, was so hard up for drugs that he allegedly broke into dad Tommy's place on Manhattan's Upper East Side last month, pulled a knife and snarled, "I want you out, and I want money," the New York Post reported yesterday.
His father stood firm, however, calling the police and having him arrested on charges of burglary and attempted robbery, according to court documents.
The elder Mr Miller said his son became addicted to painkillers because of his excruciating erections.
"My son has a very rare disease, he has a priapism, which means he gets an erection that lasts five or six hours, and it's very painful," Tommy Miller, 57, said.
"They gave him oxycodone. That's his problem. He's addicted to drugs now."
Mr Miller's father said his son has suffered for years.
"He's been sick since he was a little boy. He has an enzyme deficiency," he said. "I had him arrested. I bailed him out."
The younger Mr Miller is waiting to be sprung from jail on Rikers Island. Bail was posted at $25,000 bond or $5,000 cash and he was still being held as of yesterday.
Out before the Hillary/Helen Thomas pictures are posted as a cure.
I hope he wasn’t too hard-on his father
Stories such as this do seem to beg for bad puns. I wouldn’t want to be the guy with this condition, which is supposed to be quite painful, in addition to not wanting a life of crime. Look at it this way: how does one obtain a job, or converse with a member of the opposite sex, without being forced to mention it? I realize, yes. this could be funny. But I feel sorry for him more. I’d say, if one is going to be driven to a life of crime, there have to be better ways.
Though the story has a humorous angle to it....
Oxycodone is a drug that should be proscribed rarely, but it seems they gave them out at the drop of a hat
I wonder when in the hell is the medical community going to start figuring out many people cannot handle it and wind up addicted.....
Something like 50 % of patients in drug rehabs today are there because of being proscribed Oxycodone or it's related versions and get hooked
I guess big pharma simply is paying too much to keep it being passed out like candy
Bill Clinton would understand.
“...steal money from his father to buy painkillers he hoped would grant him relief.”
He needs to go to ER. This is a dangerous condition and not comical.
“I think I had that when I was 17.”
I went to school at one of those left-wing colleges, so I was lucky to hold it for 5 minutes.
“to be sprung from jail “
The reporter could haved written “released from jail or released on bond”. The story was full of lines like this!
Did the hippie girls hold it the rest of the time ?
My Doctor almost refused to give it to me cause of that fact. Went back to my doctor for my yearly check-up, I brought back 15 pills into him to show him I did not get hooked. They only gave me a two beer buzz. Most people can’t take it, causes them to get sick.
Ha! It’s Monk!
“Did the hippie girls hold it the rest of the time ?”
LOL. I wasn’t about to take that chance.
To start it, or stop it? Nice pic of Janis Ian there, btw. ;’)
Gosh. Talk about a mixed blessing...
