Bought a M1 Garand last weekend and shooting it for the first time tomorrow. Range is supplying military grade ammo this time. In the future where is a good place on the web or in Raleigh, North Carolina to buy military surplus 30-06 ammo?
By the way, the rifle is a Springfield Armory 1954 model with proper cartouche and ordinance stamp. No mismatching stock or parts.
get on cmp’s list. I get 8 round clips for 50 cents a round, waiting list is 4 to 6 weeks.

Primers - there seems to be a consensus that Winchester Large Rifle primers are preferred.
That Hornady ammo loaded with the A-max should be good stuff.
I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about Hornady hunting ammo in .30-06 (I’ve been using the 180 gr SST). Nice and accurate!
there is some Greek HXP headstamp available on Gunbroker from time to time. I shoot it and its been very consistent. I also have some Korean PMC which was also ok.You probably want to shoot only ammo loaded to M2 ball specs with FMJ 150gr bullets.
When my HXP is gone I’ll reload the brass as recommended
for the M1. My ‘03 and ‘03A3 also love HXP.
My concern about the less than military or match grade is the primer on the cartridge. The bolt will dimple the primer on return and softer primers could be a safety problem. I found a store that sells Hornaday match grade for the M1, but it is pricey.
Wear ear plugs.
Seriously.
My dad makes all our loads.
Oh bloody hell.
Should I have ignored this thread?
Be back later...I’m taking my guns fishing.
Thank you, gentlemen.

I have never known Garands to be prone to slam fires.
Now my MAS49/56 - that’s another story.
For the -06 Graf and Son’s shows PRVI AMMO 30-06 150gr SP 20/bx $16.99
Dude, you’re lucky.
54 was a good year.

Mot dead(yet!)
I picked up some fresh 30.06 brass off the range today.
Go to an Appleseed clinic. See my tagline.
Naw, I have some troubled history with Garands is all.
M-1 thumb hurts like hell, if memory serves. Nonetheless, a wonderful rifle.
