About two and a half years.
I discovered FR in '98 when there was a big rally in Washington that was covered by our local news.
I actually tried to sign up then, but something glitched and I didn't follow up; I just lurked.
Then, when I did sign up in February 2001, it still glitched, but I e-mailed Jim and he fixed whatever it was.

The 11,000+ posts are just a clever ruse.

I first became aware of FR on Sunday, September 16, 2001 when one of my friends at church told me about it. He said it was the best source for late-breaking news and opinion about the 9/11 Muslim attacks. Since I had dialup, it was a more effective way to get the information in a concise, speedy manner. Because I had a tenuous at best dialup connection, I treated FR as read-only resource and used a text-based, non-graphical browser.
I finally dropped the longtime dialup service I had in late January 2010 and opted to register as a member since I then had a more reliable internet connection (and am now enjoying things a lot more with a graphical browser).
Through the years, I enjoyed the oft-heated Civil War threads and wonder what happened to some of the longtime participants in those.

2 Months and 5 days. Sept 11 searching for any kind of news or information. FR really was on the leading edge for accurate updates. Signed up November 16, 2011 because it matched my views and beliefs.

I was watching the Elian Gonzales news out of Florida and someone on the street was holding a ‘www.freerepublic.com’ sign. I immediately went to the website and shortly thereafter registered.

From October 1998 to January 2000. Then I created my first profile.
Wanted a new screen name so created this one in 2002.

Lurked since 2003 before the Iraq invasion began. Originally from canada, I got disgusted on the anti-Americanism by my fellow moron kanadastanis’ and looked for a pro-American forum to blow steam. Signed on many years later.
