SO, after much anticipation, I finally had the chance to try Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
And after hearing and reading all the hype, I was definetly...What would be the correct word?...
UNIMPRESSED!!!
To me, I was expecting something extraordinary. What I got was ordinary. All around the joint I see these "supposed" magazine and newspaper articles, extolling the awesomeness of Five Guys burgers' and fries.
I say supposed, because from the time I got my sack, with the round tinfoil ball, that was my burger, to the time I took my first bite of said burger and had my first fry, my first and continually repeating thought was "are these raves and quotes real? Are these magazines and papers even real?" I wondered, and still do, whether the owners of 5 Guys just bought ad space in these mags and papers, and created ads that looked like reviews.
A half mile from 5 Guys is a Steak And Shake, I'll go there... repeatedly... before I'd go to 5 Guys. There's a Culvers about 3 miles away, and a Fuddruckers about 5-6 miles. Why waste my time with 5 Guys?
Heck, there is a Wendy's about the same distance from me as 5 Guys, and not only is Wendy's MUCH cheaper, I find the burger just as good.
What say you?
I, for one, agree. Of the chains, I’ll take a Wendy’s before any other.
“What say you?”
I say Fatburger. One Big Fat Deal, please. And crank up the Juke Box with some 50’s and 60’s Soul, Blues and Rockabilly.
Agree. 5 Guys burgers suck.
Had my first one a few weeks back also. Meat was fine, but the bun was weak and I had needed a fork and knife by the time I was halfway done. Not in my top 5. Would eat there again, but won’t drive out of the way to get there again.
5Guys fries are limp/soggy—I have had to ask for no salt because they destroy them with salt...burgers are better than McD’s but over priced. Haven’t been there in over a year.
When I want a great burger, I make it at home.
And if you start cooking your own fries out on the back patio, you will think twice about fast food places!
By far the best chheseburger I’ve ever had was at Gordon Biersch
http://www.gordonbiersch.com/default.aspx
People have tried to get me to go and are always raving about it. I like everything in Dairy Queen. Wendy’s hamburgers are good for like the first 2 bites. I’ve heard a lot about this place in Anderson, SC called BGR Burgers. Their add is you must have one before you die.
Steak and Shake? You gotta be kidding. I’ll admit the picture in the menu is awesome. Too bad the burger on your plate looks (or tastes) nothing like that.
All i was hearing on this site and others was how incredible their burgers are.
FINALLY one was built walking distance from my house last year.
WOOHOO!!!
Then i ordered one, a double with bacon and cheese.
Was it Awesome? The BEST ever? Eh....whatever.
Tasted and had the consistency of any burger you would get at a Dairy Queen, Friendly’s or any other obscure food joint.
I was a bit disappointed, haven't been back.
Same here! For some reason my son really likes that place, but me......... not so much. Wendy’s has at least the same quality - on a bad day, and the Appleby’s has a cowboy burger that is really great...for about two dollars more than Five Guys.
OVERRATED!
We have one of the ORIGINAL 5-Guys just down the street. Given the close proximity of those other chains I’m guessing you are NOT in Northern Virginia!
I prefer my burgers at home on the grill(charcoal heated/Hickory smoked).
No restaurant compares!
How do you cook fries on the patio?
I love Five Guys. But I only go there if I don’t plan on eating anything else that day. The meat is cooked fresh (as is Wendy’s), the bun is grilled, and the fries are great.
It’s fast food, not gourmet. Maybe the expectation was too high from all the hype.
I can do without the loud music, but the free salted peanuts while you wait is a nice touch.
I like Wendy's, too, and Bigg Burger.
Over hyped and expensive marketing plus less than ordinary product delivery.
I fully expect the entire chain to be totally out of business within the next twelve months.
When I left I drove over to the In-n-Out construction site and yelled at the workers to hurry up.
Best burger in the fast food world bar none——IN AND OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In L.A/Hollywood, I’m surrounded with Tommy’s, Fatburger, In N Out and Astro Burger. Haven’t been to a McD’s in months but I will drive to a Fatburger or In N Out if I have the time. Actually, I walk to both. I’m close to the In N Out which finally got Paris Hilton her jail time LOL.
