Beware the Unveiling of the Rossi E-Cat 1 MW Reactor in October

Beware the Unveiling of the 1 MW Reactor in October

For months those of us watching the E-Cat story unfold have been eagerly looking forward to the last week in October and the unveiling of the first 1 megawatt thermal reactor at Defkalion's factory in Greece. Andrea Rossi has steadfastly refused to provide more public evidence for the reality of the E-cat, pointing instead to the 1 MW reactor operation as the proof everyone should be waiting for.

Skeptics and believers alike have cited this date as well, indicating that we will all know by the end of October whether the world has changed and the Energy Catalyzer is for real.

Or will we?

Rossi, in recent communications, has indicated that some 'elite' American scientists will be at the unveiling of the 1 MW reactor, as well as physicists Dr. Brian Josephson (Nobel laureate), Drs. Kullander and Essen of Sweden, and Dr. Levi. Once concern I have here is that all those named have previously given public statements of support for the E-cat. Not that I expect Rossi to invite his enemies or competitors, but it would be nice to know there are some scientists coming who are not part of Rossi's cheerleading squad, as it were.

Moreover, this event simply cannot be a repeat of the frustrating public demonstrations given earlier this year, which provide evidence but not proof of the operation of the E-Cat. I've frequently heard people comment that you 'can't fake a 1 MW reactor' as if that scale of operation simply can't be performed with hidden, mundane, power generation.

Hogwash. Given the scope of this whole story and the hundreds of millions of dollars already on the table, it would be a simple thing to go to the trouble of pumping 1 MW of electricity into the array of 330 E-Cats with hidden power lines and convert it to thermal energy using resistance heaters embedded in the false E-Cat devices. (I don't think batteries or other on-board power generation would be sufficient for this stage of the scam, if scam it is.)

In recent weeks we've been hearing about how Defkalion is asking for $40 million euros for exclusive manufacturing rights in each country from franchise purchasers. This strikes me as bizarre. Why should I pay as much to supply Luxembourg or Albania as someone else pays for the U.S. or Japan? Why not auction off the franchises to the highest bidder once proof has been established? (That's probably a naive way to go about it too, but strikes me as better than one flat price as I've currently heard.)

The $40 million price tag raises a red flag for me. I hope I'm wrong, but I wonder how many people are willing to take the risk and hand over that kind of money now, or will jump to do so as soon as they see the 1 MW reactor running in October. If this is a scam, that's where the big money is.

So that's my fear - that the 1 MW reactor will turn out to be a fake, but one that pulls in hundreds of millions of euros in the first few weeks before things start to really fall apart as promised shipments of E-cats to independent sources (outside of Rossi's control at last) fail to materialize. My message to Rossi and the folks at Defkalion is: you've still got more than two months. Use it to plan out how you intend to PROVE to us, your customer base and the world at large, that the E-cat is real.

Don't have the E-cat array hidden or embedded in conrete - have it up in as accessible a configuration as possible. Every hose, every power line, anything that could carry a wire should be accessible for inspection and independent metering as applicable. Let the scientists (including some heretofore uncommitted ones) and journals have full access to the setup (as much as safety allows). Have some single E-cats also set up, operational and available for inspection and metering. Let the visitors bring their own equipment for inspection and metering. I understand you need to keep some trade secrets, but find ways to let independent researchers prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the E-cat is doing what you say it is doing, without any hidden power sources.

Engage the honest skeptics now to understand what we'd like to see, what we need to see, to really satisfy everyone. Please.

I do thank you very much for locating his words and pointing out to these detractors that he has indeed given two units to independent scientists to determine how and why this invention actually produces energy.

You need to remember that I made an offer to him ten years ago before he had all this notoriety.

I have no scientific or engineering background at all, just some small business experience. As I read about all of this, I keep thinking is this guy the Wright Bros. of this century? Flying under the radar for the most part while perfecting his invention, worried about it being stolen before he has a chance to make a decent return on his investment, and not caring what the rest of the world thinks while he perfects it? Or given the extreme unlikelihood of such a huge technological leap forward is he just a swindler? Given his reported criminal background, one has to wonder.
Or maybe he should just call it Rossi energy and go Galt when the government declares that it is unfair competition against the state owned power utilities.
Anyway, he has made a big deal about unveiling it in October. If it wasn't for his questionable history I would tend to believe it looks like this is for real.IF I had the real deal I don't know if I would have done anything differently than what he is doing. I sure wouldn't waste my time trying to satisfy every critic in the world. There is only so much time in a day.

However; today he explained in his BLOG that he will bring the E-Cat to two prominent Swedish Universities, UPPSALA UNIVERSITY and THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY in Stockholm, as a result of the EARLIER DEMONSTRATION with participation from SVEN KULLANDER and HANNO ESSÈN Rossi: “We will give to the University of Uppsala and to the University of Stockholm our devices to allow them to use the same devices 24 hours per day, to get data regarding the energy production. We trust them, and we know they are really neutral, without binds with competitors of any kind. I personally know them and I have in them total trust.”

Note that he says he is going to give the devices to them. He has not yet done so.

As I have said before, I hope it works. I trust you, B4. I just have not seen any proof yet.

And how is building your own E-Cat any different from putting in your own windmill or solar power system and going off the grid?

You just told me that you were stealing the patent for E-cat, and your view that you can steal a patent and use it for personal use is wrong.

Now this is all hypothetical because you cannot get a patent for something that has not been reduced to practice, and cold fusion will never work, despite the dillusions of many here.

Why would NASA be in consultations with a scam artist?

Are you talking about algor, or Obama?

The article was written last April so I do imagine they have been in the University labs for a couple of months now. My suspicion is they are trying to determine why it functions as it does. Possibly it is breaking some old physics laws.

A few more names were added to the ping list.

This is pretty exciting either way it goes, like you have said. Rossi will get a movie made about his work - but as inventor or as scam artist?

statistically speaking it’s about damn time one of these energy inventions panned out.

Same with me as far as background.

You know how it goes for a small businessguy: if it sounds too good....

Of course that isn’t going to apply to something truly visionary or groundbreaking, and those things do happen.

Me, I’m not going to ride one of those deals up, cause I won’t get in. Just my nature. I don’t even buy lottery tickets. Slow and steady, or as close to steady as I can keep it.

Appreciate the ping and your thoughts.

“statistically speaking it’s about damn time one of these energy inventions panned out.”

Good point....sort of like the saying of the blind hog stumbling onto the acorn, eventually.

The thing that nags at me is, if his E-cat really works, why didn’t Rossi get the modern day Euro equivalent of the cement overcoat years ago??

We aren’t just talking billions of dollars at stake for the established industries, many wholely state owned, that provide the oil and gas, the power generation, distribution, regulation and the taxation of it all, we are talking trillions of dollars worldwide that will eventually be displaced.

Or will it? These same power providers will have the big bucks and the clout to make it all happen and still be able get in on the installation and maintenance of the new power systems. I also expect governments to step in w/ their rules, regs and taxes to “insure a smooth transition” blah blah blah - and more importantly for them, assure their continued flow of energy tax revenue.

Hi folks ... first post here.
(I’m the author of the “real or fake” analysis of the eCat at http://lenr.qumbu.com — also see http://evworld.com/blogs/index.cfm?authorid=12&blogid=972&archive=1, and participate on the “vortex” mailing list)

With respect to the Defkalion “offer” — the full letter is at http://newenergytimes.com/v2/sr/RossiECat/docs/Defkalion-Offering-July2011.pdf

It is a fixed 40.5M Euros ($57M) — PER FACTORY (300,000 units/year), plus royalties. I expect that for smaller countries they’ll shift to a regional basis.

It’s worth noting that the offer includes the lines:
— Meeting in our factory during October to inspect and verify kW units
— Meeting in our factory during December to inspect and verify MW units

What they are doing is either a multi-billion-dollar scam OR exactly how a new distribution system SHOULD be set up.

***That was a fantastic piece of work. Hope to see you around these threads. I keep a cold fusion ping list if you’re interested in having something brought to your attention.

By the way, your analysis was very even handed. What I have noticed is that most of the venom comes from the anti-CF side. Does that correlate with what you’re seeing?

Also, have there been any updates since you posted the analysis? Has anyone actually contributed to knocking off a segment or 2?

Thanks.

On the technical front, most of the discussion has centered around the question of whether the steam was “wet” or “dry” — see Steve Krivit’s http://blog.newenergytimes.com/ for a very skeptical view. But it doesn’t amount to a DIS-proof.

But I put enough disclaimers in my paper not to have to rewrite it just yet. It remains “not proven”. I should add a clarifying comment, though.

> What I have noticed is that most of the venom comes from the anti-CF side. Does that correlate with what you’re seeing?

Yes, but the PRO’s just have to be more cautious. I ran a couple of polls (primarily aimed at members of the vortex mailing list), and both extremes have moderated somewhat over the past month.

Business-wise, though, things are changing rapidly: Rossi announced he has cancelled his agreement with Defkalion. Well-reported at:

http://pesn.com/working/includes/footers/Rossi-Defkalion_controversy.htm

It seems to me that Defkalion ran out of money, so they couldn’t meet their promises to Rossi, who is now switching his attention to the US. (He says he will instll the 1MW plant in October, in the US)

There are conflicting technical statements from Rossi and Defkalion, but they, too, don’t amount to DIS-proof.
