While driving home from the grocery store yesterday, I noticed a large cloud forming to the east. SIL said there was a fire in Yosemite Park.
Well, after reading about the fire on line, the Yosemite fire is further to the south so what I saw must have just been a cloud formation.
Nonetheless, the Yosemite fire has burned 900-1000 acres. Highway 140 was closed late this afternoon allowing entrance only on Highway 120 and Highway 41.
Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft are dropping retardent along with firefighters working on the ground.
Such a beautiful park, I hate to see the image ruined by wildfires. Speculation in a report I read suggests the fire was started by an RV passing through.

Prayers for our dearest Friend Dubya
Prayers up my FRiend, nothing is to big for HIM to remove. We pray oh, Lord, Father of us all that you will remove this cancer from our dear, dear, friend. Earthly doctors may give up, but we know YOU are the most powerful physician in the universe and nothing is beyond Your power. In the name of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

A Modest Proposal
August 27, 2011
As a college student, I heard count- less engagement stories. My starry-eyed friends told about glitzy restaurants, mountaintop sunsets, and rides in horse-drawn carriages. I also recall one story about a young man who simply washed his girlfriends feet. His modest proposal proved he understood that humility is vital for a lifelong commitment.
The apostle Paul also understood the significance of humility and how it holds us together. This is especially important in marriage. Paul said to reject me-first urges: Let nothing be done through selfish ambition (Phil. 2:3). Instead, we should value our spouses more than ourselves, and look out for their interests.
Humility in action means serving our spouse, and no act of service is too small or too great. After all, Jesus humbled Himself . . . to the point of death, even the death of the cross (v.8). His selflessness showed His love for us.
What can you do today to humbly serve the one you love? Maybe its as simple as leaving brussels sprouts off the dinner menu or as difficult as helping him or her through a long illness. Whatever it is, placing our spouses needs before our own confirms our commitment to each other through Christlike humility.
In marriage, we will honor Christ
By following His lead
Of sacrificial love and care
To meet the others need. Sper
If you think its possible to love your spouse too much,
you probably havent loved enough.
Read: Philippians 2:1-11
[Jesus] humbled Himself . . . to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:8

Very poignant story today. Thank you. We all have pictures of our parents or lovers, or friends that are no longer with us, and yet when we see their pictures and/or perhaps a few other treasures, we stop and think back on them and our time together.
Do we remember the best or the worst or simply our heart when we were there? Worldly ignorance is such a part of our life and our choices, when we really knew it not. Our God is a forgiving God, patient, merciful, and willing to forgive when we come to him asking forgiveness and sincerely mean it. Praise the LORD!
Love and mercy, forgiveness, loving kindness, gentleness, and righteous goodness is the way of our God. Chastising and instruction is a necessity for our good. Thank you, Father God, in Jesus name and for his sake, amen.

Lovely picture once again. Thank you, for all the beautiful varied pictures you bring to the thread.
I must learn to do that. It would take me longer than it does now, to add my contribution of the day. I am rather slow ... it seems. My typing leaves much room for improvement. I am thankful for Free Republic, and all the great people that come here daily. I was at odds yesterday with Free Republic down.

THE COW AND THE ICE CREAM
ONE OF THE BEST EXPLANATIONS OF WHY OBAMA WON THE ELECTION
From a teacher in the Nashville area-- "We are worried about 'the cow' when it is all about the 'Ice Cream.'
The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had
was while teaching third grade this year.
The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest.
I decided we would have an election for a class president.
We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.
We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.
We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids.
I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support.
I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches.
Jamie went first.
He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best.
Everyone applauded and he sat down.
Now is was Olivia's turn to speak.
Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream. "She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."
She surely would say more. She did not have to.
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. But no one pursued that question. They took her at her word.
Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know.
The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.
Jamie was forgotten.
Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 51.4 % of the people reacted like nine year olds. They want ice cream.
The other 48.6% percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess."
This is the ice cream Obama promised us!
Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone that they have not first taken away from someone else.
Did you vote for the ice cream?

Man often but thinly knows himself (Shakespeare)
There is a phrase I am attempting to remember here and now about the truth of a person being evidenced by what a person would do it they knew NO ONE WAS WATCHING ...
Do we surprise our self or disappoint our self? It is the heart we are to guard above all else. It is out of the heart that comes the issues of life. The Word of God and belief in Jesus Christ and surrendering in truth to him as the LORD of our life, will wash us clean of our sins.

HAPPY CATURDAY TO AMYS PLACE!
Gus - The Theatre Cat - a poem by T S Eliot
Gus is the Cat at the Theatre Door. His name, as I ought to have told you before, Is really Asparagus. That's such a fuss To pronounce, that we usually call him just Gus. His coat's very shabby, he's thin as a rake, And he suffers from palsy that makes his paw shake. Yet he was, in his youth, quite the smartest of Cats-- But no longer a terror to mice and to rats. For he isn't the Cat that he was in his prime; Though his name was quite famous, he says, in its time. And whenever he joins his friends at their club (Which takes place at the back of the neighbouring pub) He loves to regale them, if someone else pays, With anecdotes drawn from his palmiest days. For he once was a Star of the highest degree-- He has acted with Irving, he's acted with Tree. And he likes to relate his success on the Halls, Where the Gallery once gave him seven cat-calls. But his grandest creation, as he loves to tell, Was Firefrorefiddle, the Fiend of the Fell.
"I have played," so he says, "every possible part, And I used to know seventy speeches by heart. I'd extemporize back-chat, I knew how to gag, And I knew how to let the cat out of the bag. I knew how to act with my back and my tail; With an hour of rehearsal, I never could fail. I'd a voice that would soften the hardest of hearts, Whether I took the lead, or in character parts. I have sat by the bedside of poor Little Nell; When the Curfew was rung, then I swung on the bell. In the Pantomime season I never fell flat, And I once understudied Dick Whittington's Cat. But my grandest creation, as history will tell, Was Firefrorefiddle, the Fiend of the Fell."
Then, if someone will give him a toothful of gin, He will tell how he once played a part in East Lynne. At a Shakespeare performance he once walked on pat, When some actor suggested the need for a cat. He once played a Tiger--could do it again-- Which an Indian Colonel purused down a drain. And he thinks that he still can, much better than most, Produce blood-curdling noises to bring on the Ghost. And he once crossed the stage on a telegraph wire, To rescue a child when a house was on fire. And he says: "Now then kittens, they do not get trained As we did in the days when Victoria reigned. They never get drilled in a regular troupe, And they think they are smart, just to jump through a hoop." And he'll say, as he scratches himself with his claws, "Well, the Theatre's certainly not what it was. These modern productions are all very well, But there's nothing to equal, from what I hear tell, That moment of mystery When I made history As Firefrorefiddle, the Fiend of the Fell."
