Pack lives about 90 miles east of Seattle .

This makes the fourth resident wolf pack in the state, and the second known pack of wolves in the Cascade Mountains ...

...

The gray wolf is protected throughout Washington as a state endangered species. In the western two-thirds of Washington, the species is also federally protected under the Endangered Species Act.

It's only a matter of time before the wolves kill somebody in Washington state, just like that jogger in Alaska last year.

Perhaps wolves should be introduced along the border where they might enjoy spicy south of the border delicacies.

I have a feeling that the leaders have decided if they reintroduce wolves into our forests, camping will cut back, the need for herd management through hunting will be reduced and consequently people just won’t be buying rifles and handguns.

Who is going to go out shooting, camping or hunting if there’s a danger that you might be attacked by a pack of wolves? Keeping in mind that someone who goes out hunting deer once a year is nowhere close to being what I would consider a woodsman.

Hunters who drink in the evenings, and there’s lots of them, when they run out of beer they must go to town to buy more. Would you go to sleep half plastered if you knew there was wolves in the area?

Over the next twenty five years I won’t be surprised if the sales of hunting licenses drops significantly.

“Reintroducing the wolf into the West will go down in history as one of the most monumentally stupid acts of all time.”

Reintroducing the wolf into the West will go down in history as one of the more cunningly treasonous acts of all time.

FIFY.

Somebody should reintroduce a few wolves into Washington, DC. Lots of flabby soft lazy flesh there that would make good would eats for the pretty wolfies. How is it the bureaucrats and worthless know-nothing congress critters write and impose stupid laws that only affect distant citizens, but never themselves. I think a few wolf encounters would be very educational for the city folk who carefully protect themselves from even human encounters. My bet is not a one of them could tell a wolf from a dog. That includes most environmental wackos too.

"I just looked it up. Apparently forest fires have driven grizzlies into Eastern Oregon. There are plans to hunt them down.

High power, large magazine, semi auto or assault rifles may be the next popular hunting rifle."

Like my FAL maybe?

What really galls me is that there is very little truthful dialogue between wildlife biologists and hunters. For years there has been a cover up on big cat populations from South Carolina to the West coast, big bears in the Northwest, and wolves all through the Northern to Northwestern states. I also know of one instance a few years ago where Virginia wildlife biologists were dumping sacks of rattlesnakes on a friend’s farm from a roadway to “re-introduce” them back into the area.

While I think it is exciting to be in an environment where there is a bit of risk, you are correct in stating that most hunters everywhere are just unprepared for an encounter with something that is going to hunt them back.

We always made a pact in camp before the hunt that if we were set on by a big bear it would just get shot and nobody would talk about it. I’ll be darned if I would give up a big elk to a bear, cat, or wolf pack after spending several thousand dollars on a hunt!

Thanks for the ping, George.

The animal/enviro-nazis in WA/OR (and that includes those that have infiltrated the two state's F&G Depts) will not be happy until wolf populations reach the level that are causing the same problems here that they have caused in ID, MT and WY.

Wolves had no valid reason to be reintroduced to the NW states. They compete with man for wild game, kill man's domesticated animals and in some cases have been a danger to man themselves.

The bunk we hear about them being a part of the ecosystem is just that, bunk. And what the enviro-nazis say about wolves only killing the sick and old is an outright lie.

When wolf pacts cross the Cascades and establish themselves in Western WA and OR the enviro-nazis that live in rural areas will start changing their tune when they have to contend with them on a daily basis. The three S's will become more popular.

Just spent a fair amount of time researching this so thought I would share it here. Two people have been reported killed by wolves in the past 100 years in North America. Bear killed 59 people in the last 10 years. Cougars killed 11 in the past 10 years. Domestic dogs kill 20 to 30 every year
The 2010 kill in Alaska was originally reported as a bear killing, noting that wolf tracks were also in the area. The Alaska Fish and Game (which was under scrutiny for areal killing of wolves) then reported the killing to be by wolves.
I guess the moral of this story is that wolves are not much of a threat to humans.
