They want you to think you are going to die if you don’t watch their weather report. We get the same cra@ in the winter in northern climate and the reporting of wind chill.
Aw, you’re just jealous other folks get to have temperatures in the 110’s like we do. It’s just that ours are for real.
;^)
I’m more annoyed with the reporters walking around with those laser thermometers telling us how hot the hood of a car is.
it's stupid. of course it's the heat.
It’s only 99 here today.
But it feels like 372.
I agree... and I think it is to push the global warming manure. The local stations are showing the heat index temps instead of actual. And I’ve no doubt people are saying “summers are 15 degrees hotter than ever! Must be that global warming. Pass the salt.”
Actually, the “feels like” is meant to be taken literally. The heat index is calculated from the actual temperature and the humidity, and is intended to convey what temperature it would feel like it was. The temp may be 95, but with humidity, it may feel like it is 106. That’s helpful to know, since it helps to determine when you might want to do work outside, how strenuously, etc.
Before that .. it was hot. cold, and/or wet.
I don't know how we did it ... but we survived ... especially after sharing one Nehi with two other friends, riding our bikes from 8 or 9 AM until dusk without helmets ....
I’m with you.
“hwat’s the tempature?”
“The thermoter says it’s 106 degrees.”
“That’s what it feels like to me, too.”
The “feels like” is actually legitimate. It’s a combination of base temperature, wind, cloud cover, and humidity. Put them together, and with either hot temperatures or cold temperatures, it makes quite a difference, compared to base temperature.
This matters if you are doing outside activities, especially with young children. A base temperature that would be pleasantly cool indoors might be downright chilly with some wind, humidity and clouds. And warm can be quite hot, with the same variables.
the news is based on fear
A Mohave Desert 100 degree temp, is much different than a Midwestern high humidity 100 degree temp.
Why just stick with the sense of touch? They should go by the sense of smell. “Today’s weather, STINKS” I could live with that type of reporting...
>>>Just report the scientific facts and let us decide how we feel.
But the ‘fees like’ aka heat index is science. It is a representation of the reactions of “animate objects” physiology to varying conditions, and how quickly and or likely it may be that those reactions could become detrimental to one’s ability to work in said conditions, or even be detrimental to one’s continued existence. And if you or a loved one had ever suffered from a heat related illness, you would not be so cavalier to call “feels like” a load of crap, when it is not.
90°F in Phoenix is a whole lot easier to deal with than 90°F in Houston.
I like the Weather Channel man on the street who reports how hot it is, for hours on end, but who never breaks a sweat or who looks hot himself.
Yellow makes me feel sad
I don't want the weather-chicks telling me how they feel either.
I'd rather feel them for myself. ;)
How come in winter the 'wind chill' makes it feel colder than it really is, but in summer the lack of wind makes if feel hotter than it really is? Can't have it both ways, WeatherBabe's ... either wind has a chilling effect or it doesn't, there is no number nudging option. If anything 103 with lack of wind would still be and 'feel like' 103, if there is a wind then it should 'feel' cooler.
And besides, anything over 70 is way too hot for me anyway, so I don't even 'feel' any difference if it's 71 or 91 or 101 or 112 ... it's just way too damn hot for me, and I run to the nearest air conditioner ...... /laughs

Give me the “hot” weather over the #$@&ing 20-40 below crap!! I hate shoveling snow, I’d rather mow lawn! I’d do it in this “feels like” weather, and when I’m done, I still feel my toes and fingers! I get real pissy when people complain about the “hot” weather. I hate the statement, “You can always put more clothes on.” Bull#@^%, I still know it’s cold, and another thing, it will not get so damn hot you’re going to combust! Bring on summer, man! Too many months here in Minnesota are cold, and I’m enjoying what I get, and I don’t even have A/C, so there!
