Throughout the 19th century there have been reports and scholarly discussions of submerged forests and artefacts from now-submerged environments around the coasts and seas of Britain (Coles 1998). Since the publication of Doggerland: a speculative study by Prof. Bryony Coles in 1998, there has been significant progress in the active investigation of submerged prehistoric landscapes around the coasts of the UK.
To date much of this progress has been focused around the coasts of England and Wales, partly as a consequence of the geographical distribution of available funding streams i.e. the Marine element of the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (MALSF). However, there is potential in Scotland to encounter submerged prehistory and preserved sites. A key source will be development-led archaeology emanating from offshore renewables and other industries, in tandem with existing research projects and future research priorities, e.g. Scottish Archaeological Research Framework (ScARF). Together, these may provide invaluable resources for the identification and analysis of submerged prehistory off Scotland.

I just saw a show on NatGeo TV about it this week. I always enjoy your postings.
Good stuff. I’m heading over there for a visit this fall. This really has my Anglophile interest going.
Thank jrushing, nice pic!
Thanks, I think there’s a few topics in the FRchives about Doggerland, but oddly enough, for a change, I didn’t look for ‘em. :’)
And thanks for the kind remarks!
