Jane Fonda: "The Truth About My Trip To Hanoi"
JaneFonda.com ^ | July 22, 2011 | Jane Fonda

It is unconscionable that extremist groups circulate letters which accuse me of horrific things, saying that I am a traitor, that POWs in Hanoi were tied up and in chains and marched passed me while I spat at them and called them ‘baby killers. These letters also say that when the POWs were brought into the room for a meeting I had with them, we shook hands and they passed me tiny slips of paper on which they had written their social security numbers. Supposedly, this was so that I could bring back proof to the U.S. military that they were alive. The story goes on to say that I handed these slips of paper over to the North Vietnamese guards and, as a result, at least one of the men was tortured to death.

That these stories could be given credence shows how little people know of the realities in North Vietnam prisons at the time. The U.S. government and the POW families didn’t need me to tell them who the prisoners were. They had all their names. Moreover, according to even the most hardcore senior officers, torture stopped late in 1969, two and a half years before I got there. And, most importantly, I would never say such things to our servicemen, whom I respect, whether or not I agree with the mission they have been sent to perform, which is not of their choosing.

But these lies have circulated for almost forty years, continually reopening the wound of the Vietnam War and causing pain to families of American servicemen. The lies distort the truth of why I went to North Vietnam and they perpetuate the myth that being anti-war means being anti-soldier.

By the way, if leaving Vietnam was the reason ‘they’killed him, who is they?

You do realize that this happened in the late 60s, don’t you? There’s no way she was in her mid 30s when she made “Barbarella”. She was 31.

She was a tool of the left, though, and she was ambitious.

I’m not defending her at all.

She is now a has been. That’s why she wants/needs the media attention.

So, I would appreciate it if you don’t insult me be calling me a fan of hers.

My God, Jane. You got fired because no one wants to buy your crap any more..... The people watching these shows have no freakin’ idea of who you are....

LOL You know that is so true. In typical liberal fashion she no doubt views herself with the usual imagined superiority so that would never occur to her. It would be sad if I did not despise her so.

Actually, Jane Fonda went to Hanoi when I was at Jump School, in the Army, she was about 35 years old and already had an Oscar under her North Vietnamese belt.

Jane wasn’t a tool of the left, she was a dedicated leader of the left, I don’t know why you keep defending her and playing down her treasonous acts, and treasonous life or why you keep seeming annoyed at us for despising her and being glad that she is still paying at least some tiny price for her horrible anti-American life.

She doesn't regret SITTING on the anti-aircraft gun. She regrets that she allowed a picture of her sitting on the anti-aircraft gun to be taken!

Like the criminal not a bit sorry for his crime but very very sorry he is going to jail.

Was it for Barefoot in the Park? She made that film in 65 when she was 28.

It may be helpful is you told me what year you were in jump school.

I’m not annoyed with anyone despising her. I despise her.

But now, in this day and age, she is an old woman who is desperately trying to get media attention.

I’m sorry...I think it was Cat Ballou that she made in ‘65. Barefoot in the Park came a couple of years later. They Shoot Horses Don’t They is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

In any case, she wasn’t 35 until ‘72.

My following lengthy post to Fonda's website is now "awaiting moderation" No doubt it will never see the light of day there but I felt better myself for having ranted.

I wonder if any of these oh so supportive individuals on the site were actually even alive during the infamous Hanoi trip. Did they know one thing about it before this? Have they tried to find out? All the gushing, "I knew it couldnt be true Jane, and I support you Jane" is based on what exactly? The fact that Jane Fonda says so? That you liked her in a movie? What? If one cares to research just a little, one can read Fonda's own words during that time, she never minced words or shrank from speaking the truth of her communism. One cannot support and endorse that way of life and then still claim to support American military troops as Ms Fonda is just recently claiming was the case. I realize some of you may prefer not to be confused by facts but the evidence is abundant and available if you care to look. I lived during the Vietnam era. I remember the war, the soldiers, this story, the truths and the lies of it. I am very sure that Ms Fonda is sorry. She is sorry that some evidence still exists of her shameful behaviour. Much like the criminal that is sorry to be caught and going to jail. I doubt the Hanoi trip is a reason for being dropped from QVC. Perhaps Ms Fonda it is simply that none of the customers know or care "who you are". It could just be that you no longer have any drawing power. They likely never heard of Hanoi Jane. Why is it still so disturbing to me all these years later? Perhaps for the same reasons it still disturbs you Ms Fonda. We both know the truth of it.

It’s funny how getting booted from QVC made her, after forty long years, uh, “clarify” her personal history.

Good point. I wonder if she's the most hated woman in American... funny how the MSM doesn't 'do' that kind of list.../s

I never thought she was trying to shoot down our planes - I thought she was there giving comfort to our enemies in a time of war. Also that she was undermining our soldiers - and giving comfort to those back home who would spit on returning United State soldiers.

Putting up the crap about shooting at US planes is her effort to make people who hate her (with good cause) look like they're 'extreme'. Sorry Jane, going to a foreign country we're at war with - and singing and posing with the enemy is the act of a traitor. You don't have to be shooting at our men to qualify...

"Bad behavior is still bad behavior and it still isn’t right, no matter how richly she deserved it."

What I wrote stands! No matter what you "thousand points of lights," "compassionate conservative," RHINOs think, the liberal/socialists are fighting a war with no holds bared. Conservatives better learn that socialists fight dirty.

Remember who said, "If they bring a knife, we bring a gun!"

If you think there is some advantage to "taking the moral high ground," get ready to be kicked in the teeth when fighting a liberal. There is NO bad behavior when fighting the commie bastards!

People died and were tortured because of Hanoi Jane.

Own it, Jane. It’s all yours. All that blood, pain, lost babies, families.

Thanks for the comment about my cars. I was 21 in 1969 and those cars are my time machine. When I get behind the wheel, just for a moment, I can feel young once more.

I'd be proud to know your brother but I'm about 1500 mi west of NJ.

“What happened next was something I have turned over and over in my mind countless times.”

I get great satisfation knowing she turns that over and over in her mind every night she lays down to sleep.

"Did you read the rest of my post?"

Just to make it clear what your original post said.

"Several years ago, Hanoi Jane was signing books at a publicity event. A Viet Nam Vet stood in line with a big wad of chewing tobacco. When it was "his turn," he nailed her right in the face and said he was "returning the favor." Although I don't condone his act, I certainly understand why he did it."

I underlined what I suspect you're referring to.

That makes no difference. It's a weasel way of disconnecting yourself from that Vet. What he did a thousand other Vets would have liked to have done! She deserved to have been tried as a traitor and shot.

Once again,I condone his act, I applaud his act, I support his act & He did it for all the guys that didn't come back the the world while she has the privilege of "LIFE, LIBERTY and HER PURSUTE of COMMUNISUM".
