I've heard varying quotes of how many daily users there on on Free Republic and even the most modest of them has my ire growing. Do ya wonder why?
You know what; it might come down to something as simple as an altruistic promise he made when they were dreaming this up and he is staying true to his word no matter what.
In this day of selling any lie you can to make a buck or get a vote, that ain't all that bad really.
I don't mind supporting a man who honors a handshake.
Great post!
Visiting now with Freeper friend I met via FR
I right now am unable to do anything $$$ wise being in a very dark place financially but your idea is stellar Mr. K
Now we could go commercial. We could sell ads. We could sell subscriptions or memberships, We could sell t-shirts and hats. But the moment we do, we invite scrutiny and copyright lawsuits. Before going commercial we would have to scrub our archives of any possible copyright violations. And wed have to tighten up our current operations to make sure no one posts anything that could get us into trouble with any publisher of stories, photos, images, etc. And with sharks like Righthaven swimming around, there will always be room for trouble. And going commercial still wouldnt guarantee enough income to build and maintain a paid staff, bullet proof software, redundant systems, etc.
Hey Baynative, I just shut my businesses down and now work as a private citizen for a good corporation. Paying off large debts in the meanwhile I continue to pledge each quarter. I’d like to urge folks to just give $5 if they can’t do anything else. I did while going bankrupt. It really does add up.

Sorry Bay-
I tend to donate late in the cycle.
A little lead in for the final sprint, so to speak.
And I will this time, as all should.

maybe publish an expense report so that people can see how it takes $88,000 a quarter to maintain a web site.
Just an idea.
I am so glad you posted this because I thought I had signed on for monthly donations but I was mistaken.....I am now a monthly donor.....thanks for the kick in the butt !!!!!!
I was being, um, “sensitive”. We DO have 49 new monthly donors. We also have those who want to remain anonymous.
Thank you. I am glad to see your support. Something I’ve always noticed about good people who do good work is they they don’t mind doing it on their own and don’t expect special recognition for doing what they feel is right, or needed. (you don’t see that on the left)
It isn’t easy, but I’m trying to run monthly donors against my ping lists and most of the people I’ve met via this website are on the donor list.
I give quarterly enough to feel fully vested here and no guilt that I am only “using” this great resource. I feel I have earned my right to hang here. It only hurts before you give. Once you give, it feels really good. Do it.
If you truly truly can’t afford much, give a pittance. Just give one coffee’s worth, or one drink’s. If everyone did, we’d be fine! We need FR.
Need you resort to name calling and insults? If you are such a valuable member of this community, surely you can come up with something a little more attractive to entice donors.
There are plenty of anonymous donors that give quarterly. Not everyone has to be on a monthly donor list, do not forget,
I’m a dollar a day monthly donor(for several years now). What I contribute to FR is of my own free will and given to a great cause.
For those that fear the use of their credit card..use your debit card.
Never been a problem of ID theft or stolen numbers for me!
I am a monthly, and proud of it. It’s not what I’d like to give, but it is as far as I can go at this time.
I got yer wheel Bay, I know where you are coming from, and you are right. If I ever get a real job again, I’ll double what I am doing now, my word of honor.
What this site needs is a Soros-grade deep pockets Conservative moneybags. Or ten of ‘em.
