USA beats Brazil
I kept hoping one of the USA girls would sucker punch her but I geuss this isn’t hockey. LOL
“Kind of ironic that the equalizer was because of a faked injury by the Brazilian player who as they were taking her off the field on a stretcher, leaped off the stretcher and returned to the sideline, where she returned to play within a minute.”
South Americans have been doing this and getting away with it for years. I’ll bet she REALLY was surprised. I don’t EVER remember seeing it called before.
The ref had obviously lost control by then. I would have red-carded her as soon as she sprinted off the stretcher; and then I would have red-carded every Brazilian who complained. I also would have added at least ten minutes of stoppage time. (Three were added.)

Incidentally she was given a yellow card by the ref when she returned.
I’ve been looking at her all week since Nike has her photo on the front page of it’s intranet system - yeah, she is gorgeous and will probably make a fortune from the likes of Nike.
I thought that was just so much BS. It might have been accurate 60 years ago, but now the predominant attitude here is "Gimme." We've given up enforcing our own laws. It won't be long now.

Lots of heros today. Wambach provided plenty of leadership. Rapinoe’s cross was a thing of beauty. The US fitness made a big difference. After the red card, they seemed a team possessed. They dominated play from that point on despite being a man down. Let’s hope they have some gas in the tank for Wednesday’s game. I agree Solo played a hell of a game. The ref was terrible.
“Gimme” is not an American Attitude. It is a parasite attitude. The “American Attitude” is still one of a**-kicking and never giving up. The question now is: Which attitude will prevail in our country?
Agreed. Solo further solidified her status as the best keeper in the world and it also further backs up her 2007 comments.
The US did give away too many balls in dangerous positions, but I thought they deserved to win. They were the better team and they overcame so many obstacles to win. Their fitness was superior and so was their mental toughness.
This game reminded me of the famous Italy-Germany World Cup game in 1970 in Mexico City. The ebb and flow of the game made it great theater.
Are you the skunk at the garden party? The US team left everything on the field and won a game that was seemingly lost. It should the kind of grit and courage that Americans are noted for, not only on the playing fields, but also on the battlefield in places now like Iraq and Afghanistan. Our political elites may have lost faith in American exceptionalism, but it still exists. All we need is leadership that can tap into it.
I guess you missed my comment, "But then it all turned, didn't it!"
The penalty rekick was egregiously bad.
But that aside, I guess you haven't seen too many soccer games. Good players frequently get the sort of penalty that was awarded. It was probably wrong, but it happens. Ditto with an offside. You're going to tell me you've never seen an offside pass before a goal? Please! The linesmen do not have slow motion replay with field shading.
There were lots of bad calls, but you seem to have missed most of them.

I guess it depends upon what one things the adjective American means. Look at how many people in this country are receiving a government check. (And I'm including all those government "workers.") It's disgusting. Look at whom we have for a President.
I'm reading McCullough's Truman now. As much as it is a biography, it's also a sad reminder of how far the United States has declined as a society.
"Gimme" may not be a FreeRepublic attitude, but you're kidding yourself if you do not thing that it is that attitude of a majority of the people in this country.

Nope, and it ain't rugby either. How come rugby ain't bigger in the USA?
I kept hoping one of the USA girls would sucker punch her but I geuss this isnt hockey. LOL
