Hey, I didn’t get to answer posts yesterday but I’m telling you the little boy and girl with the dripping water spigot was the prettiest bronze yard statue that I’ve ever seen. Wouldn’t you love to have that one?? I would and I bet its a pretty penny!!

How Government Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said “someone may steal from it at night.” So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So they created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?” So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost.”

So they laid off the night watchman.

As a veterinarian, I was called at home in the middle of the night by a woman in distress. She had swallowed her dog’s heart worm pill by mistake. I knew it wouldn’t harm her, but by law, I’m forbidden to give medical advice. “If your dog had swallowed your pill, then you’d call me,” I explained. “In this case, you really should consult with your own physician.”

“But it’s one in the morning!” she exclaimed. “I can’t wake my doctor.”

There was a time when I wouldn’t have thought twice about buying that. But these days finds me watching pennies and dollars. With the cost of plumbers, electricians, etc. these days, we have to use our extra money to keep things repaired! (I will lust after that yard statue....LOL!)

Joy In The Morning
July 26, 2011

Angie could not see through the fogged-up windows in her car. Inadvertently, she pulled out in front of a truck. The accident caused such damage to her brain that she could no longer speak or take care of herself.

Over the years, I have been amazed at the resiliency of Angie’s parents. Recently I asked them, “How have you managed to get through this experience?” Her father thoughtfully responded, “In all honesty, the only way we have been able to do this is by drawing close to God. He gives us the strength we need to help us through.”

Angie’s mother agreed and added that around the time of the accident their grieving was so deep that they wondered if they would ever have joy again. As they both leaned upon God, they experienced countless unexpected provisions for the physical and spiritual care of Angie and their entire family. Although Angie may never regain her ability to speak, she now responds to them with wide smiles and this gives them joy. Her parents’ favorite verse continues to be: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Ps. 30:5).

Have you experienced extreme sorrow? There is the promise of future joy amid your tears as you lean upon our loving Lord.

New mercies every morning,
Grace for every day,
New hope for every trial,
And courage all the way. —McVeigh

Leave your sorrows with Jesus, the “Man of Sorrows.”

Read: Psalm 40:1-5

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. —Psalm 30:5
Bible in a year:
Psalms 40-42; Acts 27:1-26

Thanks, Mayor. So glad you saw it. You could post it on FB if it would show up! The smaller pics don’t capture the beauty sometimes. It makes me love our nation’s symbol even more!!

Thanks Conor. I do understand as sometimes in the evenings I don’t get some pings until the next day. What matters is that you saw it!

We will keep praying, Dubya! May the good Lord be by your side in these tests. The tests can sometimes wear you out but at least they are trying to get to the bottom of your problems! You are always in our thoughts!

Such a beautiful lesson today, Mayor. I have always loved the verse.....Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. —Psalm 30:5
