What movie do you love that most people never heard of or seen? Mine is a movie called "Evenhand". I first saw it on IFC, then ordered a copy from Amazon. It is about two policemen in a small Texas town. One is meek and kind while the other is hard. They form a unlikley friendship. It is more plot driven, with little violence. The writing is pretty good.
I take a middle of the road approach ( I think ).
I’ll still watch Ed Harris or similar.
But not Jane Fonda or Sean Penn, etc. At least I won’t support them by going to their movie or renting their DVD.
You can pretty much go down the entire list of the early Alec Guinness movies, and they’re all hilarious.
I loved ‘The Lavender Hill Mob,’ ‘The Man in the White Suit,’ ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets,’ ‘A Run for Your Money,’ ‘The Last Holiday,’ ‘The Promoter,’ ‘The Captain’s Paradise,’ and ‘The Ladykillers.’
There are others, too; however, it seemed to me that, as he got older, he played in dramas more often than comedies.
Fortunately for film lovers, some of the most politically strident Hollywood people were in a lot of lousy movies.
I’ve seen a few of those and I copied the list so I can get them. I’m downloading “The man in the white suit” as I type.
A wonderful movie, and absolutely hilarious!
Any of the early Guinness movies is a great experience.
The Hired Hand.
Galaxy Quest is a very cute movie with an excellent cast that goes down easy. I often watch it on DVD over dinner, and have watched it many, many times.
I have seen the US version and the French one as well....Both are very good but the French was better.
I’ve seen Lavender Hill and Lady Killers and we’ll check the other out, thanks.

Do you mean Three Men On a Horse? Not coming up with anything on imdb for Four Men... And there’s apparently two versions of Three Men...
Of course, when I first saw your post, I thought of another one pretty much no one has seen, which is Once Upon a Horse, starring Rowan & Martin.
The Hot Rock was actually a weak adaptation of a great novel by Donald E. Westlake. It launched his Dortmunder series.
I think that the best job of capturing the feel of Westlake’s writing was the adaptation of his story “A Travesty” as the TV-movie “A Slight Case of Murder.”
Some additions for the list. Not sure if anyone’s brought them up yet.
The Dark (1979) - Pretty good b-movie about a killer alien starring William Devane and Cathy Lee Crosby
Child’s Play (1972) - Nothing to do with killer dolls. Sidney Lumet’s adaptation of a creepy stage play.
The Driver - Early Walter Hill starring Ryan O’Neal and Bruce Dern. Between good action sequences and a lead character who doesn’t talk much, seems like the script for this would have been about a dozen pages.
Why is that. I’m interested to know.
Yes, sorry; I meant ‘Three Men on a Horse,’ the 1936 version. I’m getting a bit fuzzy in my old age...
Anyway, it’s a good ‘un, and not to be missed.
Don’t know how I could have forgotten about Silver Bears. Great cast in a movie that kind of makes you chuckle all the way through it, including another fun turn by Tom Smothers and one of Jay Leno’s rare early acting roles. It was released on VHS years ago, but as a DVD it’s only available outside the U.S.
I first saw The Hot Rock in the theater when it came out, and the projectionist mixed up the reels so it was out of order. That definitely made the storyline harder to follow!
