CAIRO (AFP) Egyptian and Japanese archaeologists on Thursday began to unearth an ancient boat belonging to King Khufu and buried near the Giza pyramids for more than 4,500 years.
>
t is one of two boats belonging to King Khufu, or Cheops, a fourth dynasty ruler who built the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Solar boats were buried with the Pharaohs in the belief that they would carry them to the afterlife.
The boat was first discovered in 1987 in a large pit covered by 41 limestone blocks, weighing 16 tons each.

Digging Hawass ping.
A solar-powered boat?
Egypt hasn’t progressed much since then.
Generally, nations following Islam, absent oil, don’t seem to advance at all.
I believe Hawass is in jail due to the new peaceful government.
it’ smaller than I thought!
Something to do with the afterlife and the Sun God.
Doubt the Sun can pull those Oars. Looks more like a Green...Obamanaut Boat.
If it is for Obamaqunauts we could name it the Collapso.
Those look like big oars on the side....msut have been rowed by a bunch of guys named Solar....
Those things look to me like oars. Shouldn’t the complete name be solar plexus boat?
Its a shovel ready project—all those oars mean jobs for Egyptians! People power—the ultimate Green Jobs.
D*mn Presstitutes!
One ‘raises’ a sunken ship.
One ‘unearths’ a buried ship.
If they found King Khufu’s boat, does that mean he never made it off the planet.
I only ask because the boats are supposed to help them on their journey to the ever-after.

:’) In “When the Pyramids Were Built: Egyptian Art of the Old Kingdom” (ed by Dorothea Arnold) there’s a pic of a the upper fragment of a colossal statue now believed to be a portrayal of Khufu, showing him with a crown. It’s to be hoped that the rest of the statue might someday be found under a pile of something, but alas, it’s not likely.
