Most Touching Movie Scenes (vanity - chit chat)

Posted on 06/21/2011 8:44:55 AM PDT by Scythian

This scene, when I saw it for the first time as a kid, cut deep, still moves me today:

Death of a Soldier ...

A dying wish given without words, a simple pleasure, the last memory of home, a smoke of tobacco.

What are some of the ones you remember ?

When the father dies in Life is Beautiful.

The end of Gran Torino when the young man is driving the car.

We Were Soldiers when the Colonel's wife starts delivering the telegrams.

Mozart: Why must I submit samples of my work to some stupid committee just to teach a thirteen-year-old girl?
Count Von Strack: Because His Majesty wishes it.
Mozart: Is the emperor angry with me?
Count Von Strack: Quite the contrary.
Mozart: Then why doesn’t he simply appoint me to the post?
Count Von Strack: Mozart, you are not the only composer in Vienna.
Mozart: No. But I’m the best!

That says it all. :)

I sooo love that movie. It’s also the only romantic comedy that my husband and son will watch.

Well acted by Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen. Emotional, heart-wrenching yet still very masculine.

The scene from Empire Strikes Back when the Imperial forces breach the Rebel defenses and the retreat is sounded. The Rebels start fleeing across the snow, but the Imprrial Walkers are mowing them down without mercy.

The final scene in “Places in the Heart”

The widow Spaulding reunited with her dead husband (Sheriff) and his killer receiving Holy Communion. All the major characters are there, including a blind man who now can see.

Found that scene on You Tube and I misremembered about the blind man - which I now recall as being strange when I saw it. I think he’s still blind in the scene - though people who died in the movie are alive.

Still an awesome scene.

"I God Woodrow, It’s been quite a party”--from "Lonesome Dove"---when Gus is dying, saying goodbye to his lifelong friend, Woodrow Call.

(Okay, that is a mini-series)

The other scene that came to mind, from the Last Toy Story Movie where they are all about to die sliding into some crunching machine. I forget what Buzz says, but something about it being a good life, good friends and going out together and then they all hold hands as they are slipping down.

I went to see this with my daughter...she was mortified because I was sobbing at this scene.

Oh my, what a great movie. And what a great lady, Gladys Aylward. If all of us could have half her heart...and Ingrid Bergman to play her - perfect.

"While stationed near DC in the early ‘60s, I viewed the flik, On The Beach—this one kinda grabbed me.."

While I think the original the better movie, the remake has one of the most chilling scenes I've ever watched in a movie.

Right before Lt. Peter Holmes is about to administer the suicide pills/shot to his young family, he goes outside and shuts off the electricity to his house. It doesn't sound like much but when you watch it you realize it such an act of finality it just crushes you with the realization that no one will be left to do such mundane tasks nor will their be anyone left to use the everyday conveniences we all tend to take for granted...

Forgot about that one, great moment.

“On the contrary, sir, I think this will be our finest hour.”

A couple months ago we revisited Apollo 13 for our 10 and 8 year old kids. They were captivated the entire time. As am I, every time I see them create that CO2 filter with what they had on board, and the fact that they used pure math - MATH! - not computer technology for the most part, but figures with pencil and paper, to get to the moon and back. We take so much for granted these days.

Speaking of computer technology, one of my favorite lines is Tom Hanks proudly announcing the “computer that fits inside a single room!” lol

Oh, man - that scene in “ Field of Dreams “ just caused me to tear up badly.
At the exact same time my best friend elbows me and says “ can you imagine the electric bill for that field?? “

I still bust his chops about that to this day!

You’re right. but Boromir rocks.

It’s amazing how a few decimate a thousand orcs. :)
