Don’t know what variety to grow? I can make suggestions, if you want to grow plants from seed. Contact Tdscpa

If anyone needs or wants okra seeds (says JustaDumbBlonde)… please let me know. I saved a ridiculous amount in the fall of 2010. Two different varieties, Clemson and Jade, are both are heirloom variety so that you will be able to save seeds from your plants. Both are spineless and heavy producers. Jade is a bit darker green than Clemson and the pods are a bit shorter and fatter. Both are good for frying, soups, freezing, dehydrating or canning. Don’t be shy, l have more than plenty to share! Tip for planting okra: soak your seeds for 24 hours before planting. Okra seeds are hard like peppercorns and soaking will assist in quicker germination. Contact JustaDumbBlonde

I have some black-seeded Simpson lettuce seeds and some Buttercrunch lettuce seeds if anyone’s interested. (says Oberon), And... anybody have any Gold Nugget yellow cherry tomato seeds? I’m interested. Contact Oberon

I’ve been in a lousy mood since yesterday.

When I ordered my plants, I explicitly asked the customer service person who answered my call the size of the pot/plants. This person, at High Country Gardens, attempted to “guess” what the size of their standard pot was. I was astonished that she didn’t know it. She led me to believe it was a 4” pot, but admitted that she wasn’t entirely sure. I ordered only because I had one week to do so; that is normal out here; many nurseries “sleep” once hot weather sets in, resuming operations in August/September. But at the end of the day, I realized she was simply poorly trained.

These plants were $ 5.99 each and so it seemed reasonable that they were 4” pots. That is about right for a perennial, once you add in shipping.

When I opened the box today, I was stunned. These plants were in 2” pots (herb starter pots!) and the pots were not particularly robust. Not full at all by anyone’s definition. My order was more than $ 34.00 including shipping for 4 scrawny plants. I was shocked.

I might break my rule about complaining about a product and raising hell; that isn’t my nature.

But I can tell you this. I purchased plug trays from a grower (http://mgnliners.com/) that were CHEAPER than these, go for more on the open market, and on top of it, I paid the royalty to the grower!

I doubt I’d ever order another thing from High Country Gardens.

Make sure you do your due diligence, folks.

We’ve got a genuine frog-strangler going on right now here in Central Missouri. Not really what we need with the big river already above flood stage and no relief from upstream in sight.

On the bright side, there won’t be any need to water the garden for a few days.

Headed out to the garden right now, hopefully to get something done before the rain heads in. We’re building an ark here, I can’t tell you how many inches we’ve had the last couple of weeks. Guessing around a foot.

I have one garden bed planted, the seedlings are starting to show their first set of true leaves.

The second garden bed is built, I got the last bag of dirt in it this morning. I’m only able to work outside for a little bit every day, due to certain physical limitations, but I hope to have that bed planted by Wednesday.

In the front garden, the strawberries are going gangbusters! I haven’t been able to keep them picked, this morning I picked a big mixing bowl full and only got through 1/4 of the garden. It’s not really designed for easy picking, so it hurts if I push to pick more.

Hey Diana, would you like to come pick some strawberries?

Without fail...!

I’m married to a pilot. We’ve joked for years that anytime I try to plant something, we move. The bigger the planting, the bigger the move. This year has been no different. Thankfully, I have a neighbor who is an avid gardener that took my heirloom peppers, tomatoes and squashes. Just once I’d like to harvest one of my gardens. I was really looking forward to home grown tomatoes this year. They’ve been traded for Las Vegas, a pool, and a weekly gardener to take care of inedible plants. I swear- I’ve moved so many times this was the last @#$% time I plant anything. LOL. You’d think I’d know better by now. Happy gardening all and pray for me that I get over the guilt of planticide. The screams of my lettuces....

I am getting ready to plant my second crop in a few weeks. I am in Southern Louisiana and I’m lucky enough to be able to plant several second crops for canning (hopefully). I am thinking about direct seed planting but I’ve never done it so I thought this was a great place to ask for tips/thoughts. Freeper gardenlist ping!

We are getting rain! And on the weather radar, it looks like most of central Texas is also. It appears to be a good rain front coming through for the next hour or two. Downside is my wife is driving to Houston through it.
