Horses have long faces, y’know. They can’t see their own mouths very well and use their lips to feel for food. It’s the lady’s fault she stuck her finger out instead of flat-handing it as everyone else has noted.
Ping!
A horse is a horse, of course, of course.
Horses will bite you.
Does your horse bite?
No.
Chomp.
I thought you said your horse doesn’t bite.
Zat is not my horse....
Wow, it is really remarkable how stupid people are. The stupid old bat should not have her grandchildren hand-feeding horses, no one should be hand feeding horses. That teaches horses to bite. I have had horses for sixty years- and not one of them would bite——because no one was allowed to hand feed any of them, and if one did nip at a person, they soon believed that was the last thing in the world they wanted to do. Most bad behaviors in horses are taught to them by people—like people who feed them carrots or sugar out of hand. Horses are not stupid, that is usually a human trait.
Really surprised at some of the “humorous” posts on this thread. I am sure this was very traumatic for the woman. I don’t think her misfortune (no matter how unwise she may have been) is fodder for jokes.
This happened last September and she’s suing now? What, did she think her finger would grow back?
When I was a kid we were going through a line to see Roy Rogers horse Trigger, the idiot woman in front of us got her finger bit off by Trigger.
He just chewed it for awhile and spit it out.
Because that idiot got her finger bit off I didn’t get to meet Roy Rogers.
Stupid, stupid, stupid woman. This is entirely her fault. What an idiot. Why do people assume that every horse they see is a gentle little horsie, just like the family Labrador? Now the taxpayers are going to be out millions of dollars just because she’s an idiot who thought it would be okay to let her grandchildren mess with strange horses. What if it was the baby’s hand, you idiot woman? What if it was his face?
Horses can’t see at the end of their noses, any more than we can. A long pinkish tan thing waving around down there can look very much like a carrot. Let your fingers get too close to the face of a strange horse and you may indeed lose one.

Where are the Sun-Times’ copy editors? In horses, chestnut is a color. Chestnut gelding is correct.
Lady, Sue the Horse....
