The ghost ships of Mothball Fleet: Incredible pictures of abandoned Navy war ships taken by crew of illegal squatters

They are the Navy ships that heroically fought in World War Two, now slowly rotting in a San Francisco bay. And as they are being towed, one by one, for scrapping, in just a few years they will all be gone.

A group of illegal squatters gained unprecedented access to the vessels by rowing at night for two years past security and climbing onto the ships, sleeping secretly on board for days at a time.

And as these stunning images show, their efforts were certainly worth it.

At the North Bridge in Concord, approximately 500 militiamen fought and defeated three companies of the King's troops. The outnumbered regulars fell back from the minutemen after a pitched battle in open territory. More militiamen arrived soon thereafter and inflicted heavy damage on the regulars as they marched back towards Boston

doesn’t justify their implied disobedience to legitimate authority,.

trespass of property they don’t own

Whose ships are they anyway? It was TAXPAYER money that paid for them, and since the government is throwing them out, it seems reasonable that the TAXPAYERS at least get a look at them.

So you believe they trespassers are legitimate in initiating a Civil War against the US government.

Since you don’t see anything wrong in their behavior, since they have paid taxes sometime in their existence, try walking into a Marine Corps armory and taking out weapons without appropriate authority and see what ‘deadly force’ means.

So you believe that PolPot was a legitimate authority when he murdered over 2 million people.

The key word is “legitimate”. Neither Stalin, Hitler, nor PolPot were legitimate in their ascension to worldly power. Nor did they respect legitimate authority from which they rebelled prior to rising to power.

The key word is “legitimate”.

Then do you consider Obamacare, welfare, etc, "legitimate" despite their being clearly unconstitutional?

Legitimate, yes. Righteous, no.

As a nation, we have many people who desire those programs. I suspect most who promote them are not fully considering the full costs and implied consequences of those programs, but instead myopically focus on their immediate benefits.

As a nation, though, those foolish decisions must be managed, thought through, and fully understood by those who gave them legitimacy for them to righteously understand why they are so foolish.

A wrong thing done is a wrong fashion is wrong. A right thing done in a wrong fashion is wrong. A wrong thing done in a wrong fashion is wrong. The only way to have a righteous action performed is to perform it in a right fashion.

Many ships get mothballed, because it is a least cost solution to manage a temporary lower priority requirement for those ships in managing a DoD budget. If those attacking the mothballed ship policies were accurate in their accusations of malfeasance, DoD managers would have scrapped the ships many years ago. The decisions to mothball ships are not always simple, but simple decisions may have been made resulting in the mothballing. Those trespassing are in no position to have the information available to discern one way or another.

They also have unwittingly aided and abetted enemies of the US, who might not have been able to well assess how prepared these ships might retrofitted in an emergency.

This trespassers are not patriots of the US, but are liars and criminals. At best they are corrupt, but with their unrepentant attitude they lack virtue.

I don't think we're ever going to agree. To me legitimacy flows from the constitution, not from mob rule (popular vote), but going back to the ships. I believed that it was stated that they are just waiting to be scrapped. In short, junk being salvaged for the value of the materials. I for one am glad of the photo record before they're cut up and the metal sold to China.

We don’t have to agree. Same occurs when a criminal trespasses and is met with deadly force. The only thing he will understand is when the bullet removes a large portion of his torso.

There are lots of liberals in California who don’t think they have to respect property rights. Even when “No Trespassing” signs are posted, they will take them down and claim they have rights to go through anybody’s property without consequence. If they trespass and are verbally told they are trespassing, they then claim they are doing nothing wrong because it isn’t posted, and still continue their flagrant trespass.
