Pet pit bull mauls and kills 15-day-old baby

Pit bulls and other large dogs continue to maim and kill people. Is it because these dogs are aggressive and dangerous or are they owned by irresponsible and careless people?

Buster didn't have a history of being aggressive. He was a family pet, a year old and hyper like many young dogs. Buster's owner, 25-year-old Mallory Wildig had been staying at her mother's house following the birth of Darius on February 4 along with her 2-year-old son, Keylin Tillman. She would return home to feed Buster and let him outside. The times she couldn't get home a friend of her father would stop by to feed the dog. Wildig and her two children returned home on February 19. She had Keylin feed the dog, he was then let outside and given a bath afterward.

After reading to the children in Keylin's room she turned a movie on for Keylin and took the infant to her room for a nap. After closing the door she returned to Keylin's room and laid down with him for his nap. The dog was on the floor near them. Her cell phone woke her up about 10 minutes later. She went to check on Darius and found him on the floor dead.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety report said she, “discovered that Darius was dead and had been mauled and partially consumed by Buster."

The report said she sobbed throughout her initial interview with Detective Sheila Goodell. According to Mlive.com Wildig told the detective when she found her son his bassinet was tipped over and Darius was on the floor.

According to the police report Wildig said, “When I walked into the room, there was blood on the bassinet and he just looked like a little doll on the floor. It felt like all of this was a nightmare.”

Charges of involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to animals were sought against Wildig, but the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office declined to authorize charges. lamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Carrie Klein said, “This was her baby. She loved her baby. She was traumatized by what happened.”

Klein said to charge Klein there there would have be gross negligence showed.

Klein said, “Nobody ever saw any aggressive or violent tendencies from the pet at all. There was no way for the mother to know it was going to attack and kill someone. It was not gross negligence on her part to have the dog running loose in the house with the baby in the bassinet. She had no way of knowing the dog was going to do what it did.”

Buster was euthanized and an autopsy showed the dog's stomach was full of food.

Last month, Saquina Jubeark, a mother of three little boys, ages 2, 4 and 5 said she left the room they were in to get something out of the stroller. When she returned to the room where the boys were she saw her Cane Corso tearing at the 4-year-old. The little boy died from being bitten in the head and neck.

According to neighbors the home was like a zoo with the Cane Corso, a pit bull, a German Shepherd, a parrot and a snake.

Neighbors said it took 10 firefighters to remove the dogs from the home.

Nydailynews.com reports Kenny Riser the superintendent of the building said "People were scared of those dogs. The dogs belong to the husband, who is seldom here. This was a tragedy waiting to happen."

Shelbra Freeman, 72-years-old saw her neighbors pit bull loose and was trying to let them know when the dog turned on her.

Another neighbor heard the dog barking and when she went outside she saw Freeman near her yard. wyff4.com reports her neighbor Erica Sykes said, "(Freeman) was just laying here screaming for help and she had blood running everywhere. So, I just wrapped her arm up with a towel and squeezed it real tight and just tried to help her breathe and calm down because she was still screaming .All I was worried about was just helping her. I mean, it was shocking."

Another neighbor said, "I ran over there. She was sitting up with her ear lobe chewed off and blood all over her arms and, I mean, it was just horrible." Freeman is recovering in a hospital.

Chad McBride from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said the dog is being quarantined for 10 days and the owner, David Milner, has been cited for no proof of rabies and dog running at large.

“This breed is your religion”

What about those of us who don’t even *have* one but are simply sick and tired of hearing contorted crapaganda being spewed as “facts”?

“Does appreciating Pits go hand in hand with being a culture war type like us?”

Maybe.

I’m more of a “1776” kinda gal, myself.

Maybe they’re more comfortable with “1967” thought patterns.

I can top that.

My dad had a Blue Tick _coon hound_ who even scared *me*.

There’s nothing on earth more mellow than a coon hound but this dog was a nightmare.

He was the *only* intact male dog that I ~ever~ saw attack an intact female dog...and he meant to kill her.

That just doesn’t happen in “nature”.

The even worse thing was that my dad was even more freaked out by him than I was and I got stuck tending/feeding this monster.

Since nothing I did ever made any difference in his demeanor, I would have to assume he was suffering from a tick borne disease and literally wasn’t in his right mind.

However, being just a ‘know nothing teen’ at the time, my dad never took my advice to have him checked by a vet to find out *why* his behavior was so aberrant.

The dog was a hunter without equal and passed his hunting abilities on to his offspring but he, himself, was one miserable dog.

Dad sold him after I moved away from home.

Um, do you have a back-up vet you can use, if necessary?

Yours is just living on borrowed time, ya know.

Those killers will snap and turn on him sooner or later.

LOL

Bad news, ransom; In addition to the genetic brain lesions and steel crushing jaws, most pits now come standard with a Laser Beam Attached to Their Frickin' Heads.

It is such a shame that some conservatives morph into drooling liberal liars when it come to a specific breed of dog.

Sad that they cannot see themselves for what they are. It probably is a testimony to their true character.

Dobes have laser eyes but the rest is petty low tech.

[bone-snapping jaws (non-locking version) genetic psycho brain mutations and of course, spikes and whips]

I'm gonna check if Laser head mounts are available as an option.

:)

Compare/contrast:

Which dog looks more imperiled?

[and yes, her whole head was in his huge maw. He was jokingly swallowing her head. She, however, was not amused and not kidding.]

Sadly, attempts to harness the pit’s natural gas-producing abilities for flight were stymied when researchers ignored basic safety protocol (crack a window!) and perished from asphyxiation.

Actually, to be on the safe side, since all of the pit bulls who have killed or maimed someone were dogs we should probably just ban dogs altogether. That should satisfy you.

This breed is your religion - I am not trying to break your faith in it -

No, I a Catholic, and my faith in in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and our Father on High.

I see you still haven't found the pitbull in that little linky I sent you. How can you claim knowledge and quote stats (all from the same pet-hate site) about a breed you can't even recognize?

FYI, I own a peke-pom cross (11 yrs), a smooth collie (7 yrs, though he's headed for the rainbow bridge soon. Lymphoma.), and a cat(15 yrs). My GF owns a gaggle (7 at last count) of little "kick-a-poos", and I foster teacup chihuahuas and other displaced critters. No pit bulls in either household.

That said, I have had troubled dogs here, and they seem to settle in after a few days. A month or two, and most are adoptable by anyone.

As I said earlier, the irrational hate demonstrated by some here is incomprehensible to me when basic proven fact and documented evidence from a multitude of sources is ignored and "rebutted" by single source propaganda and baseless accusation. The ad-hominem is just an added bonus.

Oh please, that is the most pathetic response yet. Change out "family pet" for car, firearm (cops shoot a LOT of folks!), trans fat, tobacco, swimming pool, 5 gallon plastic bucket, bicycle, etc. With the exception of tobacco and trans fat, more folks die from every one of the listed misadventures than are killed by dogs.

The arguments presented by you appear to be mere rehashed "talking points" from either PeTA or reworded from the DNC.

You and all the other pro pit people here are just not able to refute the death toll this dog is responsible for so you throw pointless chaff at me to see if I’ll chase it. Oh and the occasional name calling, tsk tsk tsking etc. That’s it. Tha’s your action plan. Calling me a hater etc. doesn’t reduce the pit related carnage but that suits you just fine. Me - I don’t care what people, who fill a thread re ‘pit kills and eats family baby’ with posts sympathizing with pits, say about me - I just can’t value their opinion.

Identify the pit at the link? Why? Nations all over the world are trying to cope with the damage this breed causes - many are banning or adopting BSL’s because of the costs to society (insurance claims, mutilations, deaths) that are not on par with normal dogs. The unwillingness of pit owners to accept any responsibility and their insistance that the rest of us just get used to the death toll and increases to our insurance premiums and excessive police calls to shoot these animals - well no wonder you want me to chase some link and look at dog pictures - you have nothing decent to say.

You can’t refute the documented death count -the names, dates ages of those who were mauled to death by pits. So count yourself among those who throw in amusement parks, cars, trans fat, tobacco...all that chaff to try to cover the fact that this breed kills disproportionately, without warning, in an unprovoked manner. On a thread where a pit has killed and eaten a family member, I protest the killing and you protest the reputation of the dog. Priorities.

I've pointed out an example of breed mis-identification
and you went into denial, impugning the AC officer's morality.

Two can play your juvenile game....

It's quite obvious that a death caused by any other breed/type doesn't bother you in the least.

By ignoring attacks by other breed/types
you are directly responsible for future maimings and killings.

Some of us attempt to educate the public in the principles of
responsible dog ownership and thereby lessen attacks by all dogs.

You, the Ayatollah Ransomeni, on the other hand, are fixated on your fatwa vendetta
against some ill-defined type of dog you call a "pit bull".

Your malignant moral narcissism gives you license to use data from proven liars,
to accuse others in the vilest manner of the basest motivations,
while patting yourself on the back for your self-perceived moral superiority.

Your irrational blood lust would only be temporarily satiated by the death of all "pit bulls".
You are a ticking time bomb that soon would go off on the next breed on your list.

You are inoculated against reason and common decency.

Your final solution would only result in more deaths and attacks.

I've seen first hand what happens when a breed/type is banned.

Responsible owners who would have organized groups
for promoting responsible ownership are unable to function.

And "unexpectedly" the numbers of the targeted dogs do not decrease
but rather continue at current levels or increase.

The lack of support groups that result from your naive 'solution'
lead directly to needless attacks and the blood is on your hands.

You are a greater danger to a free society than any dog.

You are a statist, a totalitarian, hiding your evil designs
in saccharine pleas "for the children" and "for the common good"

Your ilk has been responsible for millions of deaths over the last century.

Your attempt to PROVIDE the general welfare rather than PROMOTE it,
is anathema to conservatives.

If you had a modicum of intelligence and morals you would be ashamed of your fanaticism.
Alas I see little hope of that. Be careful you don't choke on your own bile.
