Workers, activists and other volunteers are making fast progress in collecting the 231,000 signatures needed to put the repeal of S.B. 5 on the Ohio ballot this November. S.B. 5, pushed by Gov. John Kasich (R), eliminates the rights of 350,000 public employees to bargain for middle-class jobs.
The 35,000 member Ohio Civil Service Employees Association/AFSCME (OCSEA/AFSCME) set a goal of gathering 60,000 voters' signature. In a mere two weeks, OCSEA canvassers have collected more than 20,000 signatures to "Kill the Bill." Similar efforts are under way through the Buckeye State to hit the signature threshold by the June 30 deadline.

And it is worth every penny of that political capital to destroy as many public sector unions as possible. Why should our tax money be used against us?
SB5 will survive. And if it doesn’t, 50,000 layoffs take place the next day. Suits me. As an Ohio taxpayer, I win either way.
A vote could also bring home the fact that voters do not want a special class created for the union.
Right to work will win. Have confidence.
Don’t tell me, tell the hundreds of thousands of Ohioans that disagree with you. And, to make it worse, there’s a strong possibility that SB5 will be overturned via referendum anyways so what will we have really gained? The price we paid will be for nothing.
That article does not sound accurate.
But nevertheless the unions are nuts if they think they are going to get more from the voters than from the governor.
However, the real purpose is to find new cadres to carry the state for the RATS next election.
I was extremely confident coming out of 2010 midterms. Now, not so much.
I can't blame you... but the GOP once being elected didn't do anything. They didn't cut any spending, never stood up to the Democrat party, and always caved at every major turn on policy.

What a bunch of keyword propaganda--calling a privilege a right, and pretending the padded, politically favored union jobs are normal middle-class employment. But, many continue to fall for it, as the petition drive signature numbers and Kasich's low approval ratings show.
Next, class warfare? Well, fine, engage in it. Look at those pampered government workers, draining you of money each and every step of the way - from the added costs on your electric bill to the extra costs at the pump, it's all going to line the pockets of whiny government workers. Stand up if you'd like to do their job for half of their salaries and half the benefits! Look, see, most are standing right now, knowing that half of their piece of pie is a feast for any normal person.
The problem is that our party as a whole doesn't engage the enemy, they skirt around it, they nuance it, and we get stuck with dumb ideas like No Teacher's Pension Left Behind. Pretty much every school district has had declining enrollment over the past ten years, a reduced work load, yet salaries are constantly going up, and so are the benefits and days off.
Everyone else has to become more efficient, or face losing their job, except these louts who can just walk out of work and go stage mega protests and still get paid for it.
Sure, we need class warfare. We need to beat apart these bloodsucking unions and the wishy washy party leaders that won't go after them. They work for us, dang it, not the other way around. Declining test scores, reduced entrance requirements for colleges, and business everywhere who have to basically teach their prospective young employees how to bloody make change! That's something every 1st grader should be able to do in their sleep, yet it appears to be nearly impossible for any high school graduate to accomplish.
And they whine they need more money - what are they whining for? The requirement that they have to ...get this... pay for part of their health care. Oh my gosh! That's.. heartless. They whine because they won't be able to walk out of their classrooms any dang time they feel like it. Yep, the horrible requirement to be at work to get paid for work.
You better believe we need class warfare, we need to hit them hard time and time again identifying how these parasites are chewing at the public dollar making it harder for everyone, while they whine about things that everyone else has to do.
As for these polls, I will remind you, there were two people running last November - Obama and McCain, and I know it's in the back of my mind every time someone complains about how bad the president is doing, that McCain likely would have back-stabbed us even more.
If they come up with the 231,000 signatures in time, the matter will go to a referendum in November, 2011. The results of that referendum vote will give us a real good idea of how we stand for 2012. I’m not sure what you find inaccurate about the article incidentally.
The reference to “bidding on jobs” does not sound like what understand the unions are fighting.
If this is a stand alone vote then it might pass because an apathetic, ignorant electorate will allow the fanatics more power.
That is false. Too much, too soon was expected from the GOP.
The problem is people thought they had won the war when it was just a victory. They have no patience and the Ultras immediately started condemning the GOP rather than realizing that 2010 was just a beginning. This demoralizes everyone and is a big reason why conservatives don’t succeed for long, they have no patience, while to the RATS no defeat is a defeat so they never change their minds and stop the constant pressure to the Left.
Conservatives seem to have no clear idea of how things work in Washington or politics and can’t stay united and focused. But the interest groups know exactly how to stay focused on their purposes and their achievement.
Ryan’s budget proposal changed the whole framework of this fight and so far the GOP has not seized the initiative and hammered it home. Then Gingrich’s idiot suicidal remarks turned a problem into a disaster.
When you go up against professional crime you better have all the firepower you are likely to need. Republicans have have this hammered home to them.

Ooh, they got HALF their membership to sign in a mere two weeks. They still need to triple that in the next five. I’m not impressed.
When launching a petition drive, you always want to triple your legal minimum; OCSEA’s goal of 60,000 is probably based on that presumption.
