Any Lawn and Garden Folks Out There? (vanity/help)

Posted on 05/22/2011 6:34:34 PM PDT by freejohn

Am I the first 'dummy' to ever post something SO off topic and foreign to FReerepublic?
There just aren't ANY forums (Regardless of topic) where folks respond as quickly as here!
I have this stuff that just 'exploded' and is taking over my lawn and have No idea what it is called or What will do away with it!?
Some answers that I have received from elsewhere are: shotweed, bittercress and clover.
Sure hope there's a weed expert around?
Thanks Everyone.

Are the leaves succulent (fat and juicy?) If they are, it could be lambs quarter.

RoundUp kills everything/anything.

Nope. My neighbor planted that infernal blue morning glory and it's gone under the fence and is taking over my red apple ice plant. The morning glory seems to thrive on RoundUp. If anyone knows how to kill it I'd be grateful for the information.

You been to the grocery store and seen the price of food lately?

Plus the GOVERNMENT is/wants to limit what you grow and what you do with it.

We should be settin’ fire to town hall...

THEY MUST BE STOPPED.

RoundUp kills everything/anything.

Yes, and residual compounds remain in the soil for a LONG time.

I know there are a lot of organiphobes in this forum, but for lawns, an organic program really is the best. Check out a good lawn care company that specializes in chemical insecticide/herbicide-free services.

The leaflets are narrower than any of the three you mentioned. It might help to know what area of the country you’re in. Your state might have a weed ID site. It might not be considered a weed, so you might want to check out ground cover plant options (which can quickly turn into weeds if it wandered over from someone else’s lawn.

Just went out and looked (with a flash-light).

Individual little plants that are grouped together.
Some have a little tiny yellow flower!

http://web2.ento.vt.edu/servlet/wid?table=grasses might help (eventually). How tall does it get?

I don’t know what it is but I have something similar in a corner of my lawn only with blueish/purple flowers. Would almost be pretty if it wasn’t trying to take over.

A lot of us love the outdoors, it seems conservatives tend to actually own property. I agree with the guy who said black medic from the pictures but if it grows taller it might be a form of hop clover. Rabbits like this stuff but most people do not like it in their regular lawn. It doesn't really hurt anything in a rough pasture type mowed area. I have a mowed area with white clover, violets and various flowering weeds. The bees, butterflies and rabbits love it there.

It looks like yellow clover to me. It laughs at 2-4D. You can go to a garden store and buy chemicals to kill it but if you keep mowing it the grass will eventually outgrow it.

That looks like Kudzu. I’m plagued with Nut Sedge, poured the specific killer STRAIGHT on the plant and it didn’t even wilt.

No, no, don’t use roundup cuz it will kill your grass too. Use a broadleaf weed killer.

Boil water, pour on weeds....it will kill them. If you have a steam cleaner, that will kill them fairly quickly, but you must get the heated water into the root area.

I think that it may very well be chickweed.

Short of complete kill with Round Up, call in a lawn service, with a guarantee they will kill it, and not your lawn, and if they don’t, they come back at their expense.

You can take samples to your local ag service for identification.

But it will require a specific weed killer to get it. And they don’t always work. Try killing Nut Sedge, poured on the killer half strength, then when it didn’t even wilt, tried full strength..nada. Seems only pigs can kill the crap.

Getting lots of strange things happening because of the flooding and weather. My once beautiful roses are now leafless. Practically over night. My climbers were hit hard. I’ve treated with Bayer 3 in one Rose treatment, waiting to see what happens. We have had rain 2 days in a row now.
