So its a boy, right? a neighbour calls out as Kathy Witterick walks by, her four month old baby, Storm, strapped to her chest in a carrier.
Witterick smiles, comments on the sunny spring day, and keeps walking.
Shes used to it. The neighbours know Witterick and her husband, David Stocker, are raising a genderless baby. But they dont pretend to understand it.
Witterick and Stocker believe they are giving their children the freedom to choose who they want to be, unconstrained by social norms about males and females.
What we noticed is that parents make so many choices for their children. Its obnoxious, says Stocker.
The boys are encouraged to challenge how theyre expected to look and act based on their sex.
In fact, in not telling the gender of my precious baby, I am saying to the world, Please can you just let Storm discover for him/herself what s (he) wants to be?!
When asked what psychological harm, if any, could come from keeping the sex of a child secret, Zucker said: One will find out.
The couple plan to keep Storms sex a secret as long as Storm, Kio and Jazz are comfortable with it. In the meantime, philosophy and reality continue to collide.
There are questions about which bathroom Storm will use, but that is a couple of years off. Then there is the tyranny of pronouns, as they call it. They considered referring to Storm as Z. Witterick now calls the baby she, imagining the s in brackets.
For the moment, it feels right.
Everyone keeps asking us, When will this end? says Witterick. And we always turn the question back. Yeah, when will this end? When will we live in a world where people can make choices to be whoever they are?

Sounds like the actions of a couple of attention whores.
I once new of of hippie commune couple who wouldn’t name their baby because it was “imposing” something on the baby without its wishes. Such is this insanity.
"IT" all grown up.
I wasn’t aware of that. Neat!
Yeah, noticed I was wrong a bit after I posted. Toronto is pretty flaky though as you say.
Do they run around to hide while changing the baby’s diaper in case someone sees genitalia? What about the birth certificate - did they lie on it or beg for a gender neutral one?
I predict that one day Storm will be a very effed up individual.
Children are not adults, which is why those “obnoxious” parents have to make decisions for them until they’re old enough to take care of themselves. And you can’t get around the fact that DNA assigns everyone a sex no matter how much you deny it.
Why certain people should never breed.
And my parents were so F'n straight that it took the Army to convince me that my parents were the greatest people in the world........
I know its a serious topic but this made me laugh out loud....I as a nurse come across drug addicts with their lap tops and blackberrys living off the taxpayers and its all I can do to be pleasant to them...
Comment from the site:
These parents profess to want their kids to grow up free of ideological constraints yet ironically are imposing a strict left-wing agenda (Cuban revolution studies? Alternative free-school teachers?) - exposing their own specific ideological slant.
Lets hope that whatever IT is, it doesn’t breed.
Maybe someone should have the facts of life talk with them and explain how it works. Apparently, they are confused.
Russian has THREE genders.
Gotta whole sack of cases, though. That class was 35 years ago, so let's see how many I remember - nominative, genitive, dative...nope, I'm stuck. I think there were six altogether.
Actually, Russian does have 5 genders. Have a look at the grammatical genders. Russian has Masculine, Feminine, Neuter, Common (dual concord model), Reciprocal (one concord model).
I’m guessing Storm is a girl. Notice that the two older siblings are clearly identified as brothers. Why would the parents suddenly experiment on this child?
I'm sorry, but that is just darn right funny.
I looked for the satire link when got to that statement.
They should have called the kid “Newt” (short for neuter).
It will end the moment one of the older boys tells Mommy he watched "He-Man" or "G.I. Joe" at his friend's house, or wants to study at The Citadel. Then the 'find yourself' attitude will immediately be replaced by an intervention.
For a couple who say that gender shouldn't be important, they sure seem to focus on it a lot.
