GREENVILLE, S.C. -- An abandoned dog is recovering after his eyes were gouged out.
The North Greenville Animal Hospital had to remove both eyes of the 2-year-old dog.
"This dog really didn't have any other injuries, so we wonder if it's an abuse situation where someone actually traumatized the eyes," said Dr. Ann Malphrus of North Greenville Animal Hospital.
Malphrus works with Noah's Arks Rescue, an organization that adopts injured and abused animals in order to get them care and help them find permanent homes.
The spitz, who has been named Gandolf, was picked up by Greenville Animal Control officers after someone saw the injured dog wandering. Animal Control notified Noah's Ark of the dog's injuries.

The pictures are beyond disturbing. How anyone could do that is just inconceivable. I want to leave work and go hug my puppy now.
The story was on our local news last night but I just caught the end of it. I read it online this morning and I have been crying ever since. The rescue organization, Noah’s Ark Rescue, has a number of abused animals they try to help. Reading their stories is so heartbreaking. We have 3 dogs and I love them to death and can’t imagine how anyone could hurt or torture an animal. It is beyond my comprehension. I just pray they find who did this.

In the Holy Bible it states that in the last days sin(actually it say iniqity(sp?) will abound and the love of many shall wax cold. It also says that because of sin the creation groans.
I agree.
I believe that cruelty to animals is a sin and G*D will call these people to account.
People like this deserve eternal pain. My God, please help us find this vile person so we can protect other living creatures including his or her fellow man. Please place this animal in the most tenderly caring family with tons of love to give.

An eye for an eye.....see how he/she/it made the dog feel. Dogs give themselves to you and expect loyalty as well. This was vile.
I just pray that somehow they find who did this. Anyone who can do something like this to a defenseless animal should not be allowed to live in our society.
Couldn’t agree with you more. My heart aches when I read these stories, and seeing pictures makes me even sadder.
I have 2 pups and 2 cats at home, and I go home and scratch each one of them behind the ears just a little bit longer after a story like this comes across the wires. Just sad how cruel people can be. These animals want nothing more than to be our friends and companions, and to take advantage of that trust is tantamount to sociopathy.
I shall pet him well tonight, without being resentful of the demand.
