An eighth-grade charter school student who said she saw two classmates having sex on a bus during a group spring break trip is being punished for reporting the incident, her mother said.
The girl, who goes to Dayton View Academy, waited until she got home to tell her mom what she saw. The school is punishing her for not telling chaperons who were on the bus at the time it happened.
"If you tell something on a kid, you have to look for the response from that child and at the time," said Saundra Roundtree, the girl's mother. "She was afraid. I told her 'don't say anything when you are at school. I will handle it.' "
Roundtree said her daughter won't be able to go to her eighth-grade prom or the class picnic. The students who reportedly had sex are being punished as well, but Roundtree feels as though disciplining her daughter sends the wrong message. She added that all eight chaperons were sitting in the front of the bus watching a movie when the incident occurred.

They were 12 years old. I imagine he had football on his mind not girls and certainly not rape.
Because the hospital could definitely say she was not raped and was already pregnant, in the end she confessed the truth.
Her father withdrew her from school and they moved. I have often wondered about her and her baby.
I’m not sure that would be reasoned.
I certainly do think a registration is in order. That registration would come to be seen to reveal as serious a character flaw as registering as a sex offender would imply.
My goal would be to deny this person the ability to work in law enforcement, childcare, education, and a myriad of other fields requiring security clearance or the possession of good character and the like.
I just don’t quite see this as a sex-crime. It’s more of an abuse trustworthiness charge IMO. I would be willing to entertain counter arguments on the subject.

and how does anyone know if this girl is even telling the truth ?
and what are her reasons for not alerting those in charge ?

I sometimes wonder how a twelve year old girl can be put into the position to be made pregnant. My children were under constant adult supervision at that age. They were with my wife and I about 99.9% of the time from birth through this period, except when in school, and a very limited time before and after that.
Picking up stakes and running causes me some concern here.
Perhaps it was warranted on her destroying her ability to attend that school in relative safety. She certainly would have been scorned to say the least.
I had the same questions and concerns. How, who, when, where, why?
It was an inner city magnet school and this girl is not the only child I worried about and have often wondered where they ended up.
I am so blessed that I had the family and childhood I did and that I was able to give something similar to my own children.
Dumbass chaperones. All up front. Common sense is truly out the window. It’s like none of these people paid attention to what adults did when they were kids. They spread out around the whole group wherever they were - bus, walking, sitting somewhere.
Idiots. Kid would have probably gotten beat up if she ratted them out on the trip. That would have pretty much destroyed the trip, that’s all everyone would have been focused on, and I would bet the idiot adults would have stopped the trip and went back.
I agree Kalee, both of us were lucky that way.
One thing that perks my ears up immediately, is kids who are interested in anything related to sex or sexual matters.
Sex or the peripheral issues related to sex, are about the farthest things from the mind of a healthy child.
My wife and I tried to hug and kiss (very tamely) in front of the children once in a while to display what a healthy relationship should look like, but that was it.
This was nothing more than we did with them, to show love and affection.
Same here.
BTW the chaperones on our trip were spread out on the bus, not all in the front. We knew nothing could have happened, but still worried when the allegation was made. What and How did we miss it, if true?
i agree!
if there are no penalties for false accusations, of course you are going to have more. Which hurts the true victims of rape, domestic violence, etc.
...sadly, false accusations are much more common than most people realize. Many are found false quickly, but even of ones that proceed to DNA testing, as many as 25% are found to be false accusations.
but false charges are rarely reported. Here is a story from Virginia, that you need to read British papers to learn about:

Teacher cleared of sex assault reveals his nightmare

One thing that you may have been wise to consider, was if he had been with the girl in close proximity to the bus trip.
If they had relations a day or two within the bus trip, he could have looked pretty bad if there was a DNA match or something.
I’m glad he was cleared.
Suffice it to say, there’s no way she was raped on the bus, if you folks were disbursed among the riders.

They probably had an audience.
All the school is doing is punishing the girl who told. Nobody else.
That is so wrong.
If the girl having sex gets pregnant the school can take her to get an abortion in OH without parental permission.
If another student reports the girl and guy in the process of getting pregnant then the reportee gets in trouble.
And we wonder why kids are confused by these new zero tolerance rules ...
I have to wonder about all of this when I see gay trans-gender clubs in middle schools & teachers taking workshops on teaching the pleasures of anal sex etc. (Which Planned Parenthood had a seminar at a teachers convention in NJ , I read about it on FR) Seems to me that school should stop teaching about sex, stick to basics & stop the PC BS. Sex live's of teens should be kept out of school & there is no need to have gay clubs etc.
As for this girl, the way kids behave these days I wouldn't have said a word. Who knows what could happen to her. Mommy better find a new school asap. I am so glad I home school.
The message: Keep you mouth shut next time.
Disgusting perverse public schools.
Wow. Similar event happened to me on an 8th grade overnight field trip. As a chaperoen, while accompanying my youngest child upon an annual trip I previously enjoyed with my two older children.
Oddly enough, I was the only “experienced” adult on the trip. The subject female was behaving like a tramp in the back with the boys; so I sent her to the front of the bus, away from the boys. In retaliation, one week later she claims I fondled her breasts on the bus.
Fortunately, instilled from the BSA practice of two deep adult leadership education; I never placed myself with another’s child, without at least one other adult witness present. As for the young lady and her family, she finally admitted she made up the story; because she was angry with me.
Neither she, nor her parents, ever apologized for the grief brought upon my family. Classy people. NOT!
