I am simply posting a public apology for unintentionally abusing my access to Free Republic. Having recently unveiled an original news blog -- and since I share many of the conservative values expressed here at FR -- I wanted to make my findings available via this venue. I must say that until today many, many FR readers found my articles useful and even enraging in light of some of the government programs I have shed light upon. However, I did not realize it was in poor taste to post an excerpt and link to my own work.
You have my assurances that it is more important to share my articles with my fellow Americans. Although it is undeniable that I appreciate new visitors to my site, my goal was not to build up my site-meter numbers.
Hey, no Prob, hit my BLOG instead!
Just a suggestion, Rcat, but if you're going to take the name of the FreeRepublic Blogger Overlord in vain, you should probably courtesy-ping him. :)
At least, I think you were taking it in vain. Maybe in vein. Sometimes hard to tell...
Welcome. Very good blog. I have bookmarked it and think you will be a great asset on FR. You will have to deal with a few (self-appointed blog police) borderline personalities. Don’t take it personally. They all had mothers that had to deal with them every day. You should consider posting the entire articles with the standard link back. People will visit.
I rather like the little green duck head attachment. I presume that’s how you can tell if your doctor is a quack?

"Don't take it personally." Correct. And BTW, the abuse you may suffer at the hands of anti-blog personnel is NOTHING compared to the abuse you can suffer at the hands of other anti-(whatever) personnel on FR. The official FR Blogger Overlord (humblegunner) has a great sense of humor. Engage it, and you'll enjoy it.

Agreed -- do the right things. 1. Post complete blog articles. 2. Don't post and run -- hang out and comment on your thread.
Those are the most important flags that differentiates between someone with something to say to the members of FreeRepublic, and a mere blogpimp. If you have something of interest, post the entire article, and just make sure you have provided one or two working links back to your blog. That we we can visit if we find your work of sufficient interest. And hang out on the thread so we can find out more about your opinions.
I can't count the number of blogpimp posts I've encountered, where I simply ignored the blog link because all that was provided was a "teaser" instead of an article, and no follow-up comments from the original poster of the thread.
Thanks in advance, and have a great evening.
Jim has appointed people to figure that out for him.
You clearly don't look at the site as a whole. You, rightly, come here and read the articles that interest you. You don't deal with those that don't. You don't deal with the miscreants, the kooks, the trolls, the blog pimps and others who foul the site with UNINTERESTING things that seriously detract from YOUR experience.
It is a tribute to those that DO weed out the blog pimps and other distractions that you don't complain about having to wade through lots of trash to get to the meat of the forum.
Most all of the credit goes to the admin moderators, of course. But in one sub-category Jim has appointed a blogger overlord to spread the word to FReepers that blog excerpting is not appreciated nor allowed for a number of reasons, the most pressing being that it generates a whole host of blog pimps that clog the forum with nothing more than free advertising marketing ploys for their own blogs. They multiply like insects. They are a plague. They are hard to get rid of because they feel just like you do and that they are doing nobody any harm.
But many blog pimps are harmful to the forum and are shameful to the conservative cause. And the reasons have been explained again and again and will continue to be explained for as long as it takes.
Many blogs are GOOD and we work with those blog authors to KEEP their work on the forum and they go on a Good Guy list. That way we keep good, conservative thought on the forum and we fight the plague of blatant blog pimping, which is a separate thing entirely.
See how it works now?
Free Republic Runs ONLY On Your Donations.
Make Yours NOW and End the FReepathon!
Indeed, it is my British namesake uncle.
I shall, plain and simple.
I wouldn’t dare. :)
Excellent advice. I offer you my sincere appreciation.
There is no problem with your posting a link to your site.
In fact, you are encouraged to do so because having seen and admired your work here, FReepers will seek more of it.
Welcome.
What you've described seems like something that should be handled the usual "mod" way -- zot the abusive posters, end of story. Why do we need "blog overlords" to heap criticism upon the threads (again, what is and is not even a "blog" these days?) -- and why is it to the point that people are writing posts about them and apologizing etc.? Can't this just be handled by people hitting the abuse button when appropriate?
And there are other things that I think detract from the forum, that also is multiplying like insects. See my tagline and explanation here:
This practice, consistently adding editorial "explanations" and "editorials" and "OMG!!!!!" in the title box (as if we can't figure out that the title "Gallup: Obama Hits New Lows" means "(people figure out Obama stinks)", adds far more garbage to the forum experience than "uninteresting" (to whom?) threads.
I guess that's my main point: why can't the "marketplace of ideas" and the usual mod-function determine what is or is not "interesting" and appropriate?
Why do we need "blog overlords" to protect me from "uninteresting" posts (defined, by the blog overlords, as a post by someone who authored the article)?
Don't you agree that if no one is interested in the post, the poster will, sooner rather than later, stop posting in most cases?
Again, I am all for getting rid of abusive posts and spam. Just think there's a bit of overkill here with this "blog overlord" stuff. Report abusive posters, get rid of them, move on.
I think it's a shame that a good blog such as this one was put off because the author shared his posts here.
It's even got some more hits now that you brought it to our attention. LOL
P.S. I forgot to also ask: if the mission of the blog overlords is to protect the forum from “uninteresting” threads, why is the “solution” requiring the post contain the whole dang article??
Anyone who posts to his own stuff, no matter how well within normal FR guidelines, get jumped on by a group of freepers who act as though the rest of us cant decide for ourselves whether wed like to read the article at the link or not.
I have no issue with jumping on abusive posters, but unless it reaches the level of spamming FR, Id rather let the marketplace of ideas determine what threads make it on FR, not some arbitrary bright-line rule on WHO posted the thread.
I agree.
Several good bloggers have left because of the over zealousness of a few FreeperBeaters.
good blog steve.. thanks for link dynachrome.
