Retired German math teacher Joachim Rittstieg says ancient Dresden Codex and Mayan priests guided him to the legendary Atlantis in eastern Guatemala.
A retired German math teacher has spurred a national hubbub in Guatemala by claiming to have discovered an ancient underwater city laden with treasure.
Joachim Rittstieg grabbed headlines in March with his visit to Lake Izabal in eastern Guatemala. Buried there, he claims, are eight tons of gold tablets in Platos legendary Atlantis.
Instead of being dismissed, Mr. Rittstieg has garnered a lot of interest. Guatemalan newspapers called him a German scientist and followed his expedition with enthusiasm.
Rittstieg arrived with a reporting team and a scuba diver sent by a popular German tabloid.
The buzz over Rittstieg is very strange, says Oswaldo Chinchilla, a Guatemalan archaeology professor and Mayan museum curator. This is complete fantasy, he says.
Meanwhile, a group of German Mesoamerican scholars called Rittstiegs claims absurd and damaging to Germanys reputation.
Rittstieg says he cant help the fact that he found the city and the experts didnt. He says the ancient Dresden Codex and Mayan priests guided him, and claims the US Navy helped detect the exact location. They say it cannot be. But I have the basic information now, says Rittstieg, who is seeking funding for an excavation.

Lake Titicaca is a lake which has the figure of a jaguar chasing a small animal- located on the border of Peru and Bolivia-
“But these things come not into the tale of the Drowning of Numenor, of which now all is told. And even the name of that land perished, and Men spoke thereafter not of Elenna, nor of Andor the Gift that was taken away, nor of Numenore on the confines of the world; but the exiles on the shores of the sea, if they turned towards the West in the desire of their hears, spoke of Mar-nu-Falmar that was whelmed in the waves, Akallabeth the Downfallen, Atalante in the Eldarin tongue.”
JRR Tolkien, “The Silmarillion”, “The Akallabeth”
“In 1937 My birthday (2-23-37) consists of 3 prime numbers.”
Wow! That’s amazing, isn’t it!
Atlantis has been found more times than Idi Amin died.
Nah, Atlantis is at the bottom of Lake Lewisville.
Very interesting. He’s telling us where 8 tons of gold are buried.
Wait a minute! Why is he telling the world were 8 tons of gold are buried. Mightn’t someone go there and dig it up first?
``It is believed that the name Titicaca means Rock Puma derived from the Aymara language titi: wild cat and karka: rock. Legend tells that titis used to live on the rocky islands of the lake and that they swam from the islands to the mainland in search of food. Nowadays the titi cat or the Andean cat is the most endangered cat species in the Americas.``

Why would the natives name an island after a large cat when the lake is shaped like a cat and its shape can only be seen from the air or satellite?
Bolivia, the Rhode Island of South America says about the Lake: “We got the Titi, Peru got the Caca.”
As if the name wasn’t enough.
Wait an minute, another lost city. What you can buy franchises?
