Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs Zahi Hawass has been sentenced to one year in jail on Sunday for refusing to fulfill a court ruling over a land dispute.
The Egyptian criminal court also said Hawass must be relieved of his governmental duties and ordered him to pay a LE1000 penalty.
Hawass failed to adhere to a ruling in favour of his opponent over a land dispute when he was in charge of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).
The SCA appealed the court ruling, arguing that the land includes monuments and therefore should be treated as government-owned land.
Hawass was recently re-appointed as antiquities chief in the newly-formed cabinet of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf.

He may be an asshole but he is one of the Snappiest Dressing Egyptians I have ever seen. That prolly won’t help him in Jail .. but who really knows if he will actually spend a single minute behind bars ... he is still very connected.
TT
That is a truly sickening boot licking. Cozy "Dr. Z" is a tyrant who has locked up ALL important artifact and pyramid investigations down to the last piece of rubble. He's a tool of every globalist lockdown paranoid still trying to keep humanity from understanding it's true past. He has "protected" antiquities in the same way locking an entire country into prison would "protect" them from crime. What a load of garbage!
Getting his butt thrown in jail is a GREAT sign that White Hats are finally overthrowing Black Hats. Now maybe the human race can find out what that rotten bastard has been hiding for so long - like the cave system under the Giza plateu, for example, or the many detected rooms in the pyramids he's refused investigation of, or the vast nearby area of desert indicated by the pyramids themselves as enormously important that he literally built a fence around!
Screw him, he's an enemy of humanity.
On the other hand it is more likely that the Egyptian Robespierre has just instituted the guillotine and is about to slaughter every spec of enlightenment in the sands of the Pharaohs. Anyone want to buy a mummy?
I thought of several replies to your rude comments but then realized you are delusional. I see no point is arguing with a person completely disconnected with reality.
Your out of your mind.
He has been a strong advocate for protection of Egypt’s antiquities and is a repsected scholar in his field.
THis is one of the first steps in a new world order in Egypt which very well may wind up with them blowing up the sphinx, the pyramids, etc, as they blew up the gian Buddhas in Afghanistan.
To strict Muslims, history is irrelevant before Mohammad. Before Mohammad, nothing important occurred except with repsect to the prophets. They alos abhor any images of animals or people - so good-by to the tombs, wall paintings, mummies, statues, etc.
Hawass did his best to retrieve stolen antiquities from other countries and return them to Egypt. Its ironic that his fellow countrymen may very well wind up destroying them all.
In Islamdom there is apparently only two choices - a brutal military dictatorship which permits purely scholarly work and protects to some degree the rights of minorities, or a theocratic Muslim state which regulates down to the last degree every thought and personal actitity of its citizens.
Muslims are simply unfit to govern themselves or anyone else.
“But I still think this guy acts like an ass.”
How so? If you are going solely by that reality show he was involved with, I can understand your feelings, but I think that was mainly promotional hype. He has been invovled in many more serious and educational flicks on TV.
“Anyone want to buy a mummy?”
If they bring them back down to the price of firewood, I’ll take three...
Maybe Ay-rabs have short tempers. :)
