Full title of page: "Directory:Andrea Rossi's Cold Fusion Energy Catalyzer (E-Cat): Frequently Asked Questions"

There have been other articles posted recently about this new technology, but I saw this FAQ page, and realized that it's a good primer for folks who are unfamiliar with it, to get a quick understanding of what everyone's talking about.

Can the device self sustain without an input?

Yes. This mode of operation has been achieved many times for a period of several hours during experimentation. However, to achieve a self sustaining mode of operation, the nuclear reactions must be allowed to become very energetic, and the output becomes so high that explosions are possible. During ordinary use the system will be utilizing only a fraction of the output possible when in a self sustaining mode.

That is so funny I don't even know where to begin.

The one simple test that has absolutely zero risk of reverse engineering hasn’t been allowed.

That is a radiation detector or a gamma ray detector. Radiation is a sure sign of an active nuclear reaction. Lead shielding doesn’t stop all types radiation and there would still be radiation leaking around the ports.

Rossi has been to Prison for scams before and this 3rd party scientists is in most cases Sergio Focardi which works for Rossi.

Because they won’t allow direct verification of radiation levels to ensure there is actually a nuclear reaction ongoing and their past history, I have to write this off as a well thought out fraud which involves nothing more than parlor tricks.

Would love to be wrong, but that is what this is pointing too.

Fair enough, although I don't know why you'd think that it's funny. Aren't standard nuclear processes achieved inside a closed containment?

How is this any different?

What is funny is that is the description of a perpetual motion machine.

I still think that the upper echelons of government/corporations around the world have known about a variety of new energy products that were just then in the theory and modeling phase.

Last year there was some kind of Government Patent List of the 100 newest technologies for providing energy. A lot of them were location specific, took up large areas of land or ocean, caused problems with flora and fauna, etc.

But quite a few were like this one. And they would work, in theory. They may already be undergoing testing, for all I know.

The Large conglomerates and those who buy 100’ yachts with their huge incomes, are not going to sit by idly while some new technology replaces them. They didn’t get rich by being stupid.

Ergo, all the BS of the past 4-10 years.

That is why the GREEN CONCEPT and GLOBAL WARMING CONCEPT. They needed to get out of the fossil fuels and into ‘green’ and it costs a lot of money to do that , so guess who is footing the bill so that those in power, can stay in power ????

I believe it said that to produce 15KW of power output, it has to have 80 watts of power input.

Rossi has been to Prison for scams before...

I didn't know that. That fact certainly has a bubble-bursting effect.

The technology and its author are completely new to me, so that info is helpful. Thanks.

In Japan, they are doing it on the outside. Although not by choice.

No, they said it can be sustained without input, read up

What is funny is that is the description of a perpetual motion machine.

If you read further, they claim that the reaction isn't permanently sustainable, and that the device needs to be refueled periodically (on the order of months).

They go on to claim that 90% of the nickel 'used' can be reprocessed into reusable fuel, so there is an ongoing 10% loss.

Yea, I know, it is still funny, you wanted to know what is funny so I told you.

I real scientist/engineer would never flop a question like that.

By the way, Rossi got his degree from a diploma mill.

Not true. Why don't you click the link and read yourself?

How fuel efficient is the E-Cat?

It is very fuel efficient. One hundred grams of nickel and very little hydrogen can power a 10 kW reactor for six months. After six months, the remaining fuel can be extracted and 90% of the nickel can be recycled, reprocessed, and used again as fuel.

I answered this already, you asked why it was funny, I told you.

lol, you have to read it for what it is and stop looking for further information to dispel the humor to enjoy it.

Yes, that's true. Nikola Tesla's life story is a stark testament to that fact.

Well, so far, all you’ve done is call the inventor a liar and a con artist. You haven’t refuted his claims one iota, and refuse to actually read at the link.

Got any more laughs to add to the thread?

I've never seen this mentioned before. Do you have a link to an article about it?

That's another claim that I've never seen made before. Again, do you have a link to that information?

“I believe it said that to produce 15KW of power output, it has to have 80 watts of power input.”

Do you believe 80 watts of power input could provide the pressure necessary to prevent a pressurized fusion reactor from exploding?

Read this carefully: “...Andrea Rossi’s technology, which combines small amounts of ubiquitous and safe Nickel and Hydrogen in the presence of proprietary catalyst under pressure and heat to generate a large amount of heat...” again. Creating the pressure to prevent an explosion alone would utilize much more than 80 watts of power.

Sounds like a scam to me. And I don’t believe that statement about heating two of his factories for a year, either.
