Stage presence isn't the same thing as camera presence. Until you've seen Pia perform live, you have no idea what her stage presence is.

You can merely know how she comes across on camera.

I've seen pop singers stand completely still for 75 minutes and have an audience on its figurative knees begging for more.

"Don't doubt me."

Well Pia needs acting lessons because if it’s the tv audience that is responsible for voting, that’s who she needed to convince. That being said, Stefano is terrible and Pia is not terrible but just like in a campaign, if you don’t get the votes, you lose the primary.

Pia starts recording next Friday. Record deal. Now she’ll learn all the p’s and q’s.

You wrote that "stage presence isn't camera presence". I couldn't agree more. And, I'd add that neither one necessarily equates with being impressive and worth buying a CD of.

That's part of the problem, I suspect. The judges are sitting right in front of the performers. The critiques might be more valid if a judge was watching on TV, another judge maybe in the back of the theater, and another one somewhere just listening without seeing the act.

That might be why Simon was such a good judge. He in many cases seemed to be able to interpolate how a performance would translate to those situations.
