It's so unique and his style is so idiosyncratic it's difficult to produce him in the studio...so says my drummer who heard about it from the guy who produced his band a few years ago. He's apparently very easy to get along with and he takes direction well...it's just hard to find the right mic, how much compression to use on his voice, etc.
If you listen to his AI mp3 tracks, there's a fair amount of pitch correction going on with his vocals, but that's par for the course for most singers these days.
I always pull for him to do a good job.
What a neat, fun idea!! I like Haley. It would be great if she could surprise and rock the house.
The judges are a limp-wristed, confusing mess. Grrrr... Randy says "step out of your comfort zone, do something different." Then Jenny says, "we want to see the real you, who you truly are." Contradiction! Then Steven gets all sappy with compliments that barely make sense. He is not all there...
And, they were out line with their "oh no, this is so wrong" response to Pia being voted off. Btw, producer Nigel Lythgoe says, Pia was never a frontrunner in the voting. See my next post on thread.
Producer Says Pia Toscano was Never an 'American Idol' Frontrunner
According to American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, recently ousted contestant Pia Toscano was never at any point a frontrunner in the singing competition, which he says is especially competitive this season. "The fact of the matter is, it appears that Pia didn't connect with the audience the way we maybe think she did," Lythgoe told Yahoo's Reality Rocks blog.
This may come as a surprise given how many fans were outraged when Toscano was eliminated from the contest last week. The widespread assumption that Toscano was doing well in the competition has Lythgoe considering a change in the voting process at Idol to make the show more similar to So You Think You Can Dance, which he also produces. On that show, viewers can vote for the bottom three contestants and the judges decide who will be eliminated.

The contestants, generally, are good this season. Sure the natural selection happens, and some slip through, but I think you have hit the real problem....
Poor judging, and no real coaching...
I think she could do a decent job with it.
I think the problem is two fold. Judges that contradict or don’t critique and contestants that don’t get their fans motivated enough to actually vote for them. If they don’t make that connection, the fans will not vote.
Its one thing to like someone’s voice, but fans have to vote.
I read an article where someone went to facebook and some of their friends were upset that Pia was the lowest vote getter. When asked how many of them actually voted for Pia, none did. That says it all.
Just turned on tghe tube..was channel surfing...stumbled across TMZ..the BIG story tonight is that Pia is dating Mark Balas (sp?) from DWTS..Supposedly it’s true love..they even had Mark’s mom on to say it’s so. Just had to share...I assume the story is on their website..
Check out Yahoo homepage today...they have pics of Idolers, then and now....the ones of Diana DeGarmo are scary....
Interesting AI factoids to contemplate
In the last 2 seasons, only ONE female has made it tot he top 5, and it sure looks like it will happen again this season. It appears that the major AI viewers, teen/tween girls..vote for the white guys they think are cute.
The last AIers to have multi-million record sales were Daughtry and Underwood, 5 and 6 years ago.so AI has been unable to launch a major star for 5 years....is it slipping...will we here switch to "The Voice" thread..( it's an interestying concept..you only hear the voices, don't get to see the faces/bodies...
I just decided..THAT is MY PRIZE for never winning the 10,000th post..
That is interesting. Threads would be kinda short I would think.
American Idol Backstage Report: An Emotional Stefano Dodges Another Bullet
Every Thursday night ends with the judges walking on stage and saying a few encouraging words to the booted contestant. But this session lasted much longer than usual. Jennifer Lopez stood in front of Pia, smoothing her hair and stroking her face. Randy Jackson took her in a bear hug, twice. And for once, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe joined the panel on stage, adding his words of comfort.
The remaining eight contestants formed a circle around them. But there was little solace for Langone, who must've thought the boos were directed towards him rather than a reaction to the overall vote. He turned his back to the rest of the contestants and once again, it was James who came to the rescue, grabbing Stefano and holding on tight.
Did you see Haley doing some kind of Laugh In go-go dancer move when he came over there?
Congratulations, dork, like you didnt look stupid enough in ice washed jeans and carnival roach clip feathers in your hair, you dance like an extra in Beach Blanket Bingo while dancing with a punk legend.
___________
MEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWW!!!
Pia was the “teacher’s pet” of the judges.
She acted like, of course, how natural for them to adore her.
I think this had a lot to do with her being voted off.
Today’s DailyBeast has a good article..”American Idol Implosion”..worth reading
It will be interesting to see where tonight’s song choices fall on the top 100. I like lots of the old songs but agree they’re not Idol material.
NO KIDDING! That is going to keep me up tonight. What happened to her hairline???
LMAO! For real! I will say, his plastic surgeon is awesome. The changes have been really subtle to where you know he’s had something done, but you aren’t quite sure what.
I just wanted her to toughen it up a little or rock it out or something. Not do the “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” dance. ;-)

I think the author must read these threads....
