A few years aqo, we went up to LaPine, OR for my BIL's wedding held in a state park. A deputy came down to our location and told us we had to leave the park. A forest fire was burning about two miles away. Once back at the motel, we could see the smoke plumes.

Very scary stuff, wild fires! These out here, because of
our high winds lately, have just spread so fast!

Not surprised. One good thing about up here...when the fires start, normally within a very short time, IF there aren't numerous fires going or they are not elsewhere helping out...you hear the tankers or choppers coming in for chemical or water drops. A real welcome sound!
Oh my, fires are so scary and terrible. How sad it is when I see those folks on t.v. going back to WHERE their homes were...its heartbreaking! I guess they are thankful to be alive. Death by fire must be the worst kind of death.
Glad you were not in any danger, DD! The Fire Dept. Captain told me that if someone threw a lit cigarette out on the highway, my home could be engulfed within four minutes, if the winds were right! I am terrified of fire!
(The neighbor to the north of me has two and a half acres that he has let go for the past ten years. It is a “Forest” of weeds, and he could care less about the possible consequences of his negligence.)
