A 3-year-old boy was killed Thursday after a television reportedly fell on him in his South Los Angeles home.
The accident was reported at 9:37 a.m. in an apartment in the 900 block of 82nd Street, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“The child was transported to a hospital in grave condition,” Scott said.
KCAL9 reported that the child died at the hospital but the coroner was unable to confirm the report.
The boy’s parents were home at the time of the accident, according to KCAL9.

I have a 10 month old grand baby. I am always finding something new to baby proof. It just seems like there are so many dangers for a little baby.
Here it comes . . . Federal regulations on TV placement in homes with children . . . Hang on . . . Child-safe TV installation requirements . . . lawyers are now salivating . . . especially in D.C.
My dad would put a big ole picture tube 25” set on top of a TV snack table. It is wonder that we lived. The good old days when parents chain smoked in the station wagon, windows rolled up, and the kids playing in the back seat without a seat belt. It was a dangerous time.
those wall mounts for flat screens are very expensive - $200 to $300.
Geez, how big a TV do you have. I have a mount that handles 40-52 inch TVs with tilt that cost me $90 at Best Buy.
I just noticed I have a 27inch TV on top of a dresser in my bedroom. If it fell on a child it really could do some damage.
Maybe off topic a bit but I just had a flashback of my Father taking the back off our old TV around 1954. He always kept a box full of tubes. When the Tv went out he would go back there, change a tube and put the back on again.
All the while we would be encouraging him to hurry. A different world.
I can't imagine the pain the family must be going through. Prayers up for them.
No way to make my house safe for small children or adult liberals. Too much shiny, dangerous stuff laying around.

That would certainly be my second guess(a very close 2nd). The kid probably tried climbing on the dresser, tipping it, and bringing the TV down on them.(happened to one of our kids one time)
This is exactly what happened to my husband's cousin's 3 year old grandson (one of twins) a year ago last Christmas. He died before arriving at the hospital. An older style TV sitting on a dresser, the baby tried using the dresser drawers as stairs and the TV and dresser fell over and crushed him.

I have known the TV is there since placing it there several years ago.
What I just noticed is the precarious position it actually is in. I do not have an HD tv and have maybe ten regular ones. The irritating thing is they just will not wear out and I can’t bear throwing them away. I will always keep a couple of the old ones to play all the old vhs tapes on.
I have an old Sony Betamax which I bought around 1981. I is missing the remote, a couple of pieces have broken off and the quality of ff fb still scene etc. is awful. I still have a few Beta tapes and that is the only reason I keep it.
Actually if all you do is play the movie, it has a great picture.
