Glenn Beck Network

I thought I’d post this here. You never know who is reading FR.

If Beck starts his own network, would it work? Who should he hire as newsmen and anchors?

I'll start out.

It'll go like gangbusters.

He should hire Michelle Malkin and/or Laura Ingram to host Bill OReillys show.

My understanding, he already has a pretty big staff and Internet news properties that he can easily roll out into a news channel.

Bad for Fox News and conservatives though, because he would decrease the value of Fox News Conservative Audience and therefore shift them farther to the left.

His internet and radio “empire” is already gaining considerable clout. His most recent big name hire was SE Cupp.

Joel Cheatwood, the Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Fox News, is the man who brought Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace to CNN Headline News. He is also rumored to be leaving along with Beck from Fox News. When Cheatwood left CNN HN and went back to Fox News, he brought Glenn Beck with him. He has a known high success in the TV News industry. If anyone will succeed, Glenn Beck and Joel Cheatwood will.

On the contrary, I think Beck is perceived as such a nut that few would watch because of him, and if there were a a true “conservative network” that tilted as far right as MSNBC and the rest tilt to the left, it would be a bonanza for Fox News to show how they are indeed “fair and balanced” and draw even more viewers.

Some may not like it but Fox is driven by business motives, not ideological ones. They recognized that the MSM was alienating over half of the potential audience by imosing a leftist spin on news coverage. The more Fox is perceived as fair and balanced, the bigger the potential audience they can attract. It’s simple numbers.

Short answer, no way. Don't believe me? Ask Oprah, a person's whose ratings dwarfed Beck's for a long time. Oprah can't pay people to watch her network.

It is very difficult and incredibly capital intensive. You need either very deep pockets, like Oprah, or a very attractive demographic for advertisers, again like Oprah. Beck has neither. In fact, to a bunch of advertisers, he's persona non grata.

He could go the pay-wall model, a la Howard Stern's Sirius deal. But, Stern, a guy who had enormous celestial ratings, proved unequivocally that over-the-air or basic cable ratings just don't translate to satellite or pay wall numbers .

Fox is populist not conservative. Murdoch and Ailes are in fact running a business...not a charity with an ideological agenda.

Bad idea; the cable companies won’t carry it.

Many of them only started carrying Fox News several years ago, and then because of public pressure.

So as good as it sounds, you’ll have to have a dish in order to get it. I’d never see him again.

Closest thing to the fictional UBS Network in the movie "Network", with Bill O'Reilly playing Howard Beale.

"...I think Beck is perceived as such a nut that few would watch because of him.."

The flaw in your theory is that Beck command a huge crowd on Fox News TV, almost as high as Hannity. And Beck is on at 5 pm Eastern time, and 2 pm Pacific time. Imagine if he was on during prime time.

First, it wouldn’t be GBN; he’d never name it after himself. Maybe The Freedom Network or Network America or some such.

I think he’d have a chance. The poster who points to Oprah as an example of why he’d fail misses the point completely. Oprah is starting to realize that you can’t have an entire network built around a cult of personality. Beck is smart enough to know that, and he’s not nearly so ego driven. He also seems to attract some very, very intelligent, educated, and insightful people.

The man IS smart and has the ‘vision thing’. That sells.

Yep, someplace between The Oprah Network and The Keith Olbermann Network.

I'd better hurry up and claim The Apocalypse Network naming rights.

Cool graphic. I had no idea Huffington Post drew more readers than Drudge. There’s more loons out there than imagined.
