what's better KFC vs Popeye

We just had Popeyes for dinner. There was a lively discussion regarding it compared to KFC. I'd like your thoughts. I say you can't beat the red beans and rice though.

My family goes to KFC once every year or two just to remind ourselves why we don’t go to KFC...

what’s better KFC vs Popeye

If you have a Bush’s chicken, it beats both.

“brown gravy, if you find a good location, it is like liquid crack!”

Brown gravy has its place, on my pot roast and potatoes. Not on my FC,CFS nor my mashed potatoes served with them. “ CRACK”, I think I already mentioned that I am not into experimentation so how would I know? ;)

I’m not sure how places like KFC and Popeye’s stay in business, when you can get fried chicken and sides for less than half the cost at supermarkets. Walmart isn’t great, but some supermarket chicken is very good, fried or baked. Winco in the pacific northwest is hard to beat. A month ago I’m in a KFC, and their price for an 8 piece family meal was over $21. Ridiculously high for not that great of quality.

I’m about even on KFC and Popeye’s, when it is properly prepared. The KFC/A&W combo near me does a lousy job with their chicken (and everything else). I usually default to a decent KFC’s, because Popeye’s in my town are all in bad neighborhoods.

Church’s Chicken I won’t eat if you paid me. Love their honey-biscuits, but the meat tasted funky the last couple times I tried it (different locations both times).

The best “take-out” fried chicken I’ve ever had, though, was on a visit to my kin in Indiana. They took me to a place called Gray Brothers Cafeteria in Mooresville. Land O’Goshen, that was some good bird!

“I have also been married for 48 years.”

My commission came via Officers Candidate School after being promoted to SGT E-5. Basic difference is The Academy Officers and us was that we were tought how to not pee on our hands.

Not to change that subject but what color gravy do they serve with the fried chicken at West Point? (I am sure they never served chicken fried steak there.)

I like the chicken better at KFC; but you can’t get a better biscuit fast food than Popeyes.

KFC has steadily slid downhill the past few decades IMO. I had Popeyes for the first time a few months ago and thought it was pretty good.

Many of your 'sit down' restaurants have prebreaded chicken breast that is baked, not fried. It also costs more than KFC or Popeyes, which both sell freshly fried, hand breaded chicken.

BTW, it is Popeyes by a mile, no contest.

Whichever is on my side of the street, so I don’t have to make a left turn across traffic.

I love the side dishes from Popeye’s and the chicken from KFC. But when I do eat Popeye’s, I get the mild. Don’t like anything that’s too spicy.

Popeye’s used to have the very best onion rings, by far. I don’t know why they stopped.

--------------------------

That's right, really good rings!

I always bought the Family size super box!!!!

I only had Popeyes one time, and that was in New Orleans. It was way too spicy for me, but I understand there is a non-spicy Popeye’s chicken as well. I’ll defer judgement until I taste that. I’m not huge on standard KFC, regular or crispy. But I do love the honey-barbecued wings, a container of mashed potatoes with butter, and beans. Delicious.

The best “regional chain” fried chicken I ever ate was at “Bushes Fried Chicken” in Temple, TX.

....amen brother! The VALUE at Bushes is awesome in Austin. I like Popeyes, but the last time they charged me twice as much as Bushes for a breast HALF as big! The value meal at Bushes is a huge breast, side and biscuit and they have a container of honey on the table for the biscuit.... awesome baby!!! Church’s is good too, but haven’t found them in TX.

ymmv
