Because the shrinking class of producers in the USA is forced by law to give up one third to one half of their income to the bloated, inefficient governments (local, state and federal) so they can buy votes from the non-producers, they barely have enough for the basics for their families. When we get tired of being pushed around and get a little courage, we will be using the Egyptian method of government reform. Until that tipping point, we suffer in relative silence.

You are comparing the relative materialistic levels of a 9 million person, basically racially homogeneous country to a 300 million person racially and ethnically diverse country with a huge disparity in incomes?
