Twenty Most Overrated Films of All Time: Part 1
Big Hollywood ^ | 03.13.11

Posted on 03/13/2011 6:54:03 PM PDT by Perdogg

This year was actually a good year for movies, as I’ve written repeatedly. The King’s Speech was great; so was Toy Story 3; Inception may go down as one of the most creative films of all time. The Fighter was excellent as well.

Then there were the overrated films. Black Swan was atrociously awful, another Aronofsky masterpiece of self-aggrandizing bullcrap. The Kids Are All Right was a TV movie masquerading as a prestige film because it was about lesbians. True Grit was a remake.

Jaws is my favorite movie based on this rationale: If I was stuck on an Island with only one movie to watch over and over. (Then I’d have the quandary of never going swimming though). Robert Shaw as ‘Quint’, my favorite movie character.

I loved Jaws.

After watching it, I started fishing again (hadn't since I was a kid), and went out and bought a boat.

And I bought Frank Mundus' (rumored to be the real-life Quint) book, met him, and had him autograph it. LOL

I thought “Young Frankenstein” was his best.

How can you put Titanic on a list of most underrated films when it won the Oscar for Best Picture? Do you think it should have won TWO Oscars for Best Picture?

The most over-rated? Anything by Mel Brooks.

Blazing Saddles is overrated for sure.

The War of the Worlds remake with Tom Cruise was very disappointing.

And that's being generous...

the way they talked etc.

They never quite captured that "Red River Valley (of the North) accent", and ended up sounding like a bunch of Canadians from the Res. I found the movie to be hugely overrated.

The Prisoner of Zenda (1937 version, not the one with Stewart Grainger)

I saw it a few months back and it was absolutely great.

There was also one about a big game hunter who hunted shipwrecked travelers on his island by turning off his lighthouse during storms.

It was called The Most Dangerous Game (1932).

“Harvey” is a movie with Jimmy Stewart that was great that not many remember.

Million Dollar Baby is almost painful to watch. It’s one of those movies that marginalizes the human spirit.

Predictable, prosaic, repetitive, and too long

Agree and agree on Black Swan and The Kids Are Alright. True Grit is a remake, yes, but I actually think it surpassed the original in that Hailee Steinfeld was better than Kim Darby, and Damon better than Glen Campbell.

there is one with Meryl streep that was highly overrated and I can’t even remember the movie.

The French Lieutenant's Woman?

The best part of “Titanic” was Leonardo DiCaprio’s character drowns in the cold North Atlantic.

That is the only part of that movie I have ever seen...that part is worth watching several times.

Sorry, this kid is well off-base. It just goes to show that just because someone has a blog, they don’t necessarily know what they write about.

The first Matrix was cool and made a cultural impact.

The sequels I guess they just made to cash in. They were so lousy they made the Star Wars prequels look good in comparison. Nothing but a special effects showcase with a boring, crap plot.

Juno, wasn’t horrible or anything but I don’t see how Ellen Page got an Oscar nomination, definitely overrated and pretentious.
