Nope. First because this policy isn't about the shopper, it's to stop employee theft in reality. And second, they do this to people who check out up front. They've tried to do it to me.
Since simple assault doesn't bother you, perhaps we should let Wal-Mart rape you. I mean, it's only a violation of law.
And you are on their property after all.
Obviously Wal-Mart has the power to supersede statutory and common law, because they have low prices.
If you don't want raped, don't shop there.
Or show your receipt.
Detaining you is an exercise of police power. Essentially, you are either being kidnapped, or you have employees acting as law enforcement. So yeah, the law does apply.
Or you can be raped, too at Wal-Mart.
Line forms to the left.
Such monitoring should be illegal.
You have no idea how many cameras WalMart has or how bad it really is in there. I do. They have more than you can imagine.
They track individuals by computer and follow them throughout the store. Face recognition. They take your photo at the checkout line when you buy certain products (such as cell phones) and keep it on file.
How's that for invasive? Anytime anybody wants to stick it to Wal-Mart, I'm all for it. After hearing that last bit, especially.
He doesn't need it for ANY purchase. The agreements merchants have with VISA and MASTERCARD specifically prohibit asking for ID when using a credit card.
You might as well be forced to shop naked. Because we don't want our prices going up. You might have a bag of Cheetos in your ass crack. We have to be sure.
Also, rape line forms to the left. Line up, please.
They have been sued for KILLING PEOPLE in pursuit of their stupid loss prevention policies. They have killed several people.
They do not change policy, regardless.
Got a link to back up that claim?
Letters of complaint to Walmart go straight to the trash can.
Good to know!
“You can show your receipt. Or, through higher prices, you can subsidize all the shoplifting that will occur when Walmart is not allowed to check receipts.”
AMEN. That is exactly the point. My wife works for Wal Mart. You would not believe the number of people who try this very tactic everyday.
Rick, you being a jerk to the guy at the door just allowed 10 more people to get away with it because the next time some one says to him they don’t have to show it, he won’t push the issue.
I appreciate you raising prices on all Wal mart customers, and I especially appreciate you lowering my wife’s bonus this year. Thanks.
Best Buy does the same thing.
You completely missed my point. I'm not arguing for or against this. I want to know why it matters whether the child with you is your offspring, and not another child that just happens to be with you. They are asking for proof that this is your child, and I'm asking how does that matter according to the law?
On the other issue of showing receipt, I agree with you that it's not a big deal at all and not a "rights" issue (unless you consider the "right not to be offended" a civil right).
I used to work at Sam’s...you wouldn’t believe the security procedures they have in Sam’s and Walmarts. The security cameras are unbelievable. Let’s just put it this way, they are not cheap and do not give fuzzy pictures. lol
Tell me who routinely carries around ID or any other information to prove that a child is indeed their child? This cashier wanted proof that she was my daughter. My daughter is 12; I don’t believe most 12 year olds have a state mandated ID, if they do, that’s news to me. I had already shown the cashier my ID, in fact I had it ready to show to her, which was all that was required of me. For a cashier to tell me I need to prove that my child is my child, is a bit much...what’s next? DNA proof?
That’s probably an accurate assessment fm.
Easy fix for the rear registers at Walmart.....affix a large sticker of some kind to the article bought. That way the person in front only has to glance at the item. Heck they affix a sticker to your return bag/item when you walk in the front door. I am surprised they haven’t already thought of this.
It’s a loss prevention measure that Walmart instituted long ago. It’s their right to do so within the law. Legality has not been successfully challenged and therefore they’re within it to continue.
It’s your right to refuse to comply if you’re so compelled, but do not be surprised at being detained. I don’t get all the high moral dudgeon over this. Just how many people are there, who would shop at these Walmart stores in the first place, that are unaware that their receipt will very likely be checked upon exiting the store?
Tempest in a teapot. It’s a private company and private property. All retail has authority to detain for a set period of time under suspicion of shoplifting until law enforcement arrives. This falls under that rubric as far as I’m concerned. Don’t like it? Don’t shop there. Problem solved.
