NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – A U.S. teenager has been charged with a felony, and could face a two-year prison sentence if convicted, for killing her family's pet hamster, authorities said.
Monique Smith, 19, of Brooklyn was arguing with a family member in June when she reached for the hamster, choked it and threw it outside the house, police said on Wednesday.
She was arrested following an investigation after Smith's father contacted the America Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, according to the society's assistant director Joe Pentangelo.
Smith is charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

I don’t think it’s the felony charge we should be worried about. What about a 19 year old female that does something like this?

Well there goes the quality father/daughter time - maybe during visiting hours? The daughter should have said she was doing an abortion. Getting rid of unwanted hamsters. Kill a baby and you’re honored by the Left, kill a rodent, OMG!!!!
Not to mention being someone else’s property.
Bet he was licensed to do that. Hey, we should make up “rodent killing” licenses. We’d all be safe then.

My dad had an uncanny ability to catch mice. He never used his hands, usually grabbed whatever was within reach to hit it. One time he actually pushed one into the sink and turned on the garbage disposal. That’s the only time I ever felt sorry for a mouse. The sound was sickening.
You are rather overboard on this one. Rodents.
I think the people who press for this should be charged with cruelty to children. Any judge that allows this to proceed should be impeached.

And ruined that kid’s life. “I’m sorry” it’s just not gonna cut it now, the record will follow her for life, from job to job.
The way our government with the approval of the people waste our money does not bode well for future generations. It is embarrasing to be an American these days.
