Internet Connection Help
NA | vanity

Posted on 03/01/2011 12:08:02 PM PST by Mears

I cannot connect to one website using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

All other websites go through just fine.

I was able to connect with the problem website from another PC today so the problem is mine, not the site's.

But DDOS would not impact DNS lookup. It may be a DNS cache poisoning attack.

I am using OpenDNS, and I have DNS resolution and am able to access the site. Most ISP nameservers are pretty poor.

Still no luck with Firefox or Internet Explorer.

I already had deleted my browsing history and I’m not sure what you mean by temp files. The only thing I have is Bookmarks.

I am being a real pest here but the problem is very frustrating.

I was at my son’s this afternoon and accessed DU w/o any problem with Firefox as the browser.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I see you’re still at it.

You might try this to make sure it isn’t a bad entry in your DNS cache.

From your cmd window type this:

ipconfig /flushdns

and hit enter. Then try again.

Let me know if it works.

Is it only the DU? Are there other sites you can’t get into.

Search your computer for temp, delete the content of the folders but not the folders. Some files won’t let you delete them.

What firewall are you running, what anti-virus are you running.

Generally the first thing I suggest, is do an antivirus and anti malware scan, (superantispyware) and what ever your AV package is. DO you have a registry cleaner? Do a check disk, start run cmd chkdsk /f. reboot then back to cmd and run defrag.

Now you computer is fairly well cleaned, so we can start figuring out whats wrong. ping me if you still can’t get in.

I had to stop to eat and make a few phone calls and get away from this “thing” for a while.

I just tried the DNS thing-——twice.

Response:The requested operation requires elevation.

So do I levitate or move to Denver?

If you went to Denver my brother-in-law could help you. ;0)

Now it seems as though you are running either vista or windows 7.

1) From the start menu you want to choose "Run..."

2) In the "Run" dialog, type "CMD" just like you did before, but choose the "run this as an administrator" option. (Mine bypasses this so I don't remember exactly what the wording is, but you should see a little blue and yellow shield icon and you can figure it out.)

3) Once it is running, then you can use your "CMD" window just like before but it now has extra powers. type the ipconfig flush command I gave you then let me know. 4) Don't worry about when you do it. I'll see your post sooner or later or tomorrow or whenever. You needn't hurry on my account. :0)

It’s only DU as far as I know.Every other site I’ve tried has been just fine.

What you suggested is way beyond my area of expertise(I’m still impressed by Touchtone)so I’ll have one of my kids try it on the weekend.

They are so darn busy during the week it will have to wait.

I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks.

I just tried it (democraticunderground.com) and the Yahoo search engine page came up. WTF?

That's because it's not www.democratICground.com, it's www.democratunderground.com.

It doesn't help that the stupid graphic on their page says DemocratIC Underground...

Try clicking www.democratunderground.com Helps to type the correct link.

BTW: are you sure you want to stoop to such a low level and go there? I had to fumigate my computer after typing that link....

Yep,it’s Vista——I hate it.

My daughter lived in Denver for 7 years-—Colorado is a beautiful state.

I will try your suggestion tomorrow sometime——just about had it with this problem after 2 days of frustration.

Thanks.

You’re typing the wrong URL. It’s www.democratunderground.com

Sounds like Freerepublic.com entirely too much of the time. It's gonna happen again soon, because I notice that the "post time clock" is five minutes fast -- 'zackly the same symptom as what took place when this place went to zombieland for the last six months of 2010.

If you can afford it I would suggest upgrading to windows 7. It is better than vista and solves a bunch of vistas problems. Just my $.02.

Talk to you later.

I can now access DU——got in about 1 1/2 hours ago-my first attempt today.

According to some recent posts at DU there were others that had the same problem.

Thanks so much for your help.
