Dozens of Thomas Jefferson's books, some including handwritten notes from the nation's third president, have been found in the rare books collection at Washington University in St. Louis.
Now, historians are poring through the 69 newly discovered books and five others the school already knew about, and librarians are searching the collection for more volumes that may have belonged to the founding father.
Even if no other Jefferson-owned books are found, the school's collection of 74 books is the third largest in the nation after the Library of Congress and the University of Virginia.

Better keep the libs’ filthy hands off them. They will destroy any evidence affirming conservative principals.

Awesome. I am a huge Jefferson fan, he is my favorite founding father. Will be interested in seeing some of the things he wrote in the margins.

Exciting.
And it's "Mr. Jefferson," BTW.

I enjoyed the “letter” from his granddaughter that was quoted in the article.

Wonderful!
My late loss may perhaps have reached you by this time, I mean the loss of my mother's house by fire, and in it, of every paper I had in the world, and almost every book. On a reasonable estimate I calculate the cost of the books burned to have been 200. sterling. Would to god it had been the money; then had it never cost me a sigh!

I like your attitude, after everyone of us breaths their last breath nothing but the kindness, love and consideration will live immortal.

I tend to favor the Federalists, but Jefferson certainly had the widest range of interests and intellect. I admire Washington’s character, Adams’ integrity, Hamilton’s skill at government (not politics), Franklin’s brilliance and determination.

Congress bought Jefferson's library in 1815 and it became the foundation of the Library of Congress after much of the first collection was fired by the British. In 1851 a fire destroyed about 2/3 of the items. LOC has been working for years to obtain replacement volumes to reassemble the library. The fruits of their efforts are now on public display.
