It all started in 1957 when... Homer H Dubs published a paper entitled: 'A Roman City in Ancient China'... he stated that captured soldiers from the battle of Carrhae had been settled and used as mercenaries (and even formed a town!) in North Western China, in what is now the Gansu province... there is a Chinese record, called 'History of the former Han Dynasty'... the story of a territorial battle between the Huns and the Chinese in a place called ZhiZhi, identified today as Zhambal, Uzbekistan, in the year 36 BC... A general in command of the Chinese was a man named Chen Tang, and his account of the battle... stated that his warriors faced off against a unit of soldiers which numbered more than a hundred using a very strange formation, he described it as a 'fish scale formation'... similarity to the 'testudo' (Latin for tortoise), the famous formation used by the Romans... He does make note of other feature of the Roman military too, a wooden palisade being placed outside the walls; this according to Dubs was almost exclusively a Roman practice at this time.

Where’s part two? I’m feeling deceived. What a letdown. ;-)
Oh, okay, I found it. http://www.archnews.co.uk/featured/5188-a-lost-legion-in-china-part-2.html
Thank you!
Love the Lost Legion threads...(and anything Roman Republic era).
Did anyone here see ‘The Eagle’??
Oh yeah, sorry... the second part is linked from the pictures up there. :’) I did that because both pics are used in part 2 and not part 1, and the part 1 pics were duds.
Not yet - is it any good?
Thanks for the great links! :)
There are no eagles in Rhodes.
I don’t know, I didn’t go yet and I am trying to see if anyone knows about it.
if true that is one hellacious long hike.
