>The Average Wisconsin Taxpayer makes $33,140.

And how much college did a lot of those folks need to pay for and complete in order to qualify for their jobs? It’s not equivalent to compare burger-flippers and educated teachers.

>The average Teacher in Wisconsin makes $46390+ Benefits of $20-$30K
>http://teacherportal.com/salary/Wisconsin-teacher-salary

>ANYBODY SEE A PROBLEM HERE????

Yes, you are comparing apples to oranges. How about you compare college graduate salaries and bennies with teachers’ salaries and bennies. I don’t think you’ll find much difference.

The problem is NOT the teachers.
The problem is the wasteful administrators and bureaucracy of the school system.

I think we need to be careful to go after the right people. I don’t think it’s right to demonize teachers, police, and firefighters. They work hard and some put their lives on the line every day. The problem is the government bureaucrats who use hard-working public servants as cat’s paws and shields for their wasteful existence.

Right, but the number on your site (http://www.teacher-world.com/statespages/Wisconsin.html) says $47,602, so I’m wondering where you got that number.

What part of “10% Unemployment” Is it you don’t understand? The alternative, without raising taxes, is laying off 5,500 more people.

And the point being missed here is that if this passes, UNION DUES can no longer be payroll deducted. The Unions KNOW this will destroy the revenue stream for Democrats, and create unrest in the Union as the members realize how much they actually pay to them.

As always, if you follow the money, you get to the most obvious answers.

Soooo important...the Unions will be responsible for collecting their own dues...employees will no longer have to join the Union as it now stands, they will be able to choose or not to join. Which will mean another hit on the Union leaderships coffers.

Those bennies can add up which enables them to earn a lot more without being taxed.

> A kindergarten teacher can make over twice our combined income IN RETIREMENT!

I’m not sure where these rich retired teachers are coming from. Do you know any? My mother-in-law CAN’T afford to stop teaching because the pensions have been reduced as much as they have. Remember that the only options for teachers starting out decades ago was to pay into the pension system.

I think we could wipe out CA deficits overnight if we fined the crap out of companies who hire illegals. We would get a triple-whammy benefit — 1) more revenue, 2) the illegals would lose their job in US and have to leave, and 3) jobs would open up for Americans, increasing the tax base.

But no, that would make too much sense, so of course neither the GOP (in the pockets of criminal companies) and the Dims (beholden to illegals as their new voting bloc) will do this. No common sense solutions for us :-(

The problem is not the teachers?????????? as you stated.

Well who is it then who have left the classrooms and our kids hanging in the balance while they take yet another paid vacation???? I don’t think it’s Elvis who left the buildings.

Your comment is just plain baloney.

Why should your mother-in-law stop teaching? If your going to use “decades ago” comments...then remember that teachers then continued to teach thru thier old age. The teachers today want to stop working in time to “enjoy” life at a younger age. Guess what...there is nothing biblical about re-tiring from working.

I say to teachers who complain about not making enough, “Go to work in the public sector.” I say to people who complain that teachers make too much, or have it too easy, “Get your degree and become a teacher.” If teachers had it so easy there would be an abundance of teachers. If it were so bad there would be no teachers.

Teacher’s benefits in Wisconsin are out of control. Teacher pay continues to go up at a remarkable rate when you consider the status of the private sector.

I looked up the wife of a friend of mine who has been on Facebook complaining about the sacrifices teachers have had to make.

His wife has been getting 12% pay raises each of the past two years. No one in the private sector has been getting anything like that. During that same time, I took a significant pay cut, then was laid off with 2/3 of the people in my office.

Most Wisconsin teachers don’t contribute a single cent to their health insurance or retirement pension fund. The Milwaukee public schools health insurance has a $300 annual deductible and a $900 yearly out of pocket maximum. For comparison, I have a $1500 deductible and a $3000 out of pocket max and I pay for half my premiums.

I’m not trying to demonize anyone, but teachers, firefighters and cops need to recognize that the situation in the world has significantly changed. They do important jobs, but many others who do important jobs in the private sector are really hurting and the public employee unions have a very cavalier attitude toward the pain they cause through increased taxes.

My mother-in-law (who I call Mom since my own mothers death five years ago) is almost 70 and still teaching despite numerous health problems that have come up for her. What’s this “younger age” she is supposedly wanting to retire at?

As Obama likes to say, they have no skin in the game. There jobs are secure and their benefits far out pace the private sector. Most of these state union workers are exempted from Obamacare, yet are among the the strongest supporters. Why? ...because Obamacare is not about health care or health insurance, it’s about unionization of 1/5 of the economy under the SEIU.

That’s the reason that collective bargaining rights are so important to the public union workers in Wisconsin.

Well as with many peoples parents who fall into health situations in their later years have you thought to invite her to live with you to finish out her days with a lesser load?

Show her another option and why it’s time for this given her health issues. It’s what we do for our parents when the going gets difficult for them. Many have done this who do not have the options of a chushy retirement plan.

I have a simple solution for the crisis in Wisconsin, not that anyone would do something so common-sensical. Keep all the teachers, and keep 1 principal and 1 administrative assistant per school. Fire EVERY school administrator other than those key people. They are the leeches draining the school system. They have the highest salaries and do the least important jobs. Bet that firing wave would wipe out the union leaders, too.

I agree and have said as much to our local school board. Naturally, my advice was ignored.

OH MY GOSH ... I do not begrudge the teachers themselves because they have not largely negotiated their own compensation packages and no capitalist would turn down free money. HOWEVER ... Using your link I just learned a kindergarten teacher in my home town (where the cost of living is about as low as it gets in the state) has $10K more earning power than I do working in technology in a larger city. I remember kindergarten, and I loved my kindergarten teachers, but that is crazy and not worth bankrupting the state.
