Greater Compassion
February 22, 2011

I first met my wife, Marlene, in college. I was majoring in pastoral studies, and she was working on a degree in elementary education. The first time I saw her working with children, I knew what a natural fit this was for her. She loved children. It became even more obvious when we got married and had children of our own. Seeing her with them was an education in unconditional love and acceptance. It was clear to me that there is nothing in all the world like the tender love and compassion of a mother for her newborn child.

That’s what makes Isaiah 49:15 so remarkable. It’s here that God told His people, who were feeling forsaken and forgotten (v.14), that His compassion is even greater than a mother’s: “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.”

Sometimes we face struggles in life, and we are tempted to think that God has forgotten us. We may even believe that God no longer loves us. But God’s love for us is as expansive as the open arms of Christ on the cross. And the tender compassion of our heavenly Father is more dependable and more enduring than the love of a nursing mother for her infant. Be comforted—His love never fails.

God will not forget His children
Nor will He forsake our care;
His compassion is enduring—
Even when we’re unaware. —Sper

God’s love for us is as expansive
as the open arms of Christ on the cross.

Read: Isaiah 49:13-18

Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. —Isaiah 49:15

Hey Jaycee, coffee rolls and nice helping of crab & cheese quiche is on the table by the fireside.

Today’s view is one off the public dock here on Lake Minnetonka, (which right now is frozen and spotted with the lamps of small fish houses on the lake as the ice fishermen brave the 4 degree temps.) The day it was taken, was morning, and the temp was around 70 degrees and lovely. I am so looking forward to spring, I’ve even been getting my grill ready for the coming season of outdoor cooking. I HATE the cold!

Thank you for this beautiful lesson today, Mr. Mayor!

"God’s love for us is as expansive as the open arms of Christ on the cross."

Amen. We need to always remember that! What a wonderful God He is.

Uou all have it a lot colder than we do but we have had a very bad and cold winter. I'v enjoyed the last few days in the 60's and I hear we will have a day or so in the 70's. We are not quite through with winter but we can be sure that spring is on the way!

ON THIS DAY

On Feb. 22, 1980, in a stunning upset, the United States Olympic hockey team defeated the Soviets at Lake Placid, N.Y., 4-to-3. (The U.S. team went on to win the gold medal.)

I live in the great State of Tennessee, the Volunteer State. We are in the Tri-cities area....Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City. My home is Bristol....to me the best place in the world. I can walk across the main street here in Tennessee and be in Virginia. We are the twin cities. I can walk across the main street and pay less taxes than in Tennessee. Our downtown now is nothing but antique stores and little boutiques and nice little restaurants.

At the East end of our Main Street, we have a huge lighted sign which displays...Bristol...TN. Va...."A Great Place to Live." I think its more than 100 years old and is highly maintained. We have 2 governments here too.
